Comments Thread For: Golden Boy's Diaz Admits: Ryan Garcia Not Ready For Title Shot

CARSON, California Robert Diaz was nervous before Ryan Garcia's fight Friday night. Golden Boy Promotions' matchmaker is very familiar with Jayson Velez because he was once one of the company's fighters. Diaz knew Velez would give Garcia the rounds he desperately needed against an experienced opponent who wouldn't just fall down after the first few times Garcia hit him.

this is the correct way to build a guy. If he hasn’t gotten a world title yet there’s no need to rush him or say he’s cherry picking. Once you get a belt I think all the prospect sht is over. You can’t claim you’re still developing. In that case you should drop the belt if you don’t plan on fighting the very best in the division.

I do think Ryan would fight Tank right now and even though I like the kid, I think he would get brutally KOd.

Well duh of course he's 19 years old. lol You don't put kids this young with so little pro experience in title fights. You got a kid like jojo diaz who arguably his best win was against this same velez who Garcia fought. Yet jojo also blue chip prospect had experience in Olympics, now almost 30 pro fights, triple the years as a pro then Garcia and is just now at age 25 getting his first title shot.

What Ryan is doing is not normal they already moving him extremely fast compared to other prospects but even they know a title fight is just way too soon for a 19 year old.

Of course he isn't ready. But KingRy thinks he's ready and that's what i like about him.

No shame! He's only 19! Let him face some gatekeepers first, like Yuriokis Gamboa, or Edner Cherry! There's no need to rush!

Depends who's Champ cause many Champs other than Spence fight the weakest link of the 4 champs than continue to fight Journeyman or has beens Just look at Wilder it took 8 title defenses to fight a top 10 fighter to bad the guy was a mini Butter Bean at 40

Clearly he's not ready for a title shot at 19. There was only 1 benitiez in the history of boxing who was a phenom and world champion at 17. This kid definitely should tone down his tough talk about wanting to fight tank or anyone else who is world class because he'll get washed.

                He’s no where near close

And unless he gets soft match making through out his career I don’t see him becoming a World Champ in his career

Don’t think he’s the real deal

                Just an annoying hype job

He's a prospect so... duh? Keep him active and switch up the styles of fighters he faces. He should be ready in the not too distant future.

                    Lol.

Ryan was the same guy claiming he was outboxing Lomachenko in a sparring session and so they stopped it . He was also calling out Davis, can't imagine his reaction when he finds out his own team doesn't believe he's ready. Hopefully he starts showing some humility and takes a step back. He was getting crushed by that TMT 135 lber who was also a prospect (although in a bigger weight class), and that didn't seem to help at all.
