I always thought Vanes was a pretty solid fighter. Annoying, but a solid fighter.
It fell through because Sulecki chose to fight Jacobs instead

And what a great choice it was. He made way more money in Brooklyn and made a name for himself

there's also the style, man. he's a very basic fighter and golovkin is a huge puncher. what's he going to do to keep golovkin away or win rounds? speed and power give golovkin problems. the guy who beat him in his prime probably would have taken the fight to him, not backpedaled. vanes doesn't have that kind of pop, even at 154.

That's interesting. That would be a fight that could sell if Vanes shows something positive against Golovkin.

Its a bs fight that maybe entertaining or not, but it doesn't matter to the division.

Give me GGG vs Derevyanchenko. GGG vs Charlo. GGG vs Jacobs. GGG vs BJS. There were some other compelling fights to make on Cinco de Mayo or in June if they needed to push the fight out a lil bit.

I'm a boxing fan. I'll watch "Superman" McGre, 18-0 (17) vs "Hobo" Jenkins, 8-17-2 (3) if its the only fight on TV so of course I'll watch GGG vs Vanes, but I no longer am looking forward to this fight nor see THAT much appeal in it even if its funner than expected. If that happens it'll more likely just be about GGG getting older as the dude looked about 42yrs old in the first couple rounds of Canelo vs GGG I.
I'm just jaded, once they put up the draw for the last fight I sighed and said it was going to be a three parter. I still feel that way.

And the first fight was nowhere near good enough to warrant two more.

Vanes might fool people and do ok but almost nobody can be off for 2 years and perform anywhere near their best against top level opposition.

Can't really argue that either. Even at his best Vanes' style was pretty much made for GGG.

Vitali Klitschko was off for 4 years and where 37 years old when he came back against WBC champion Sam Peter. He toyed with Sam and it was the first time Sam Peter was stopped. Peter was never the same again.

He reminds me of ruslan and mattyste, where they were on the wrong end of a couple REALLY close fights(or robbed) and it completely derailed their careers.

He gave charlo a good fight..The replacement could be much worse.

His layoff is the only thing that concerns me to be honest. This is not a bad fight considering it's a lst minute replacement.
he has never fought at 160, no need for another reason, he was good 4 years ago at 154, 2 years innactive and no notable wins at 154 and not a single win vs a real mw... and on top of that a 1 month notice to get ready.. lol..
