the curious case of vanes mitrosyan...

He's not as bad as his record suggest. All of his loses were extremely close fight and the Lara fight was stopped due to clash of heads, and he drawed them in their first meeting which I felt vanes won. I felt he was blindly robbed against Andrade.

He reminds me of ruslan and mattyste, where they were on the wrong end of a couple REALLY close fights(or robbed) and it completely derailed their careers.

He gave charlo a good fight..The replacement could be much worse.

His layoff is the only thing that concerns me to be honest. This is not a bad fight considering it's a lst minute replacement.

I've been saying that for a while. Vanes is a good fighter with a good resume. His loses aren't to bums, two were to undefeated fighters who are both mandatory challengers to a middleweight championship.

The layoff is the only issue to me also, but Vanes says he's been training during the whole layoff, just hasn't been able to get any fights.

Also, people are acting like 152 to 160 is some insane jump. Guarantee Vanes walks around heavier than 160.

The fact I don't care about seeing this bs fight on a big fight date makes it a bad fight.

But sure the thing with boxing is you can often think you are gonna get a good fight & it'll be a dud & you can think a fight is bad & it'll be exciting & fun. So there's that going on with boxing, but the bottom line is I wanna see a big fight between two top 5 talents at 160 & while the main one f#cked up there were still guys available & they were passed on. I don't appreciate that as a fan.

Could still be a hell of a fight, or it could suck. It's funny, I found I wasn't excited about the fight until yesterday when I was at work and thought "what's this weekend? Oh yeah! The Triple G fight!!" mind you, I'm viewing it more as an appetizer for Linares/Lomachenko next weekend.

he wasn't a terrible fighter at his best, but you have to realize that he's a weight class up, 2 years out of the game, and he does nothing stylistically that will trouble golovkin. he's not fast, he doesn't hit hard, those are the two kryptonites for an aging, easy to hit fighter. vanes is taylor made for a beating.

he'll box his best, lose the boxing match and jabbing contest, and end up on the ropes getting his f#cking ass kicked.

even in his prime he'd still be a f#cking jr MW, man, and as you said, not a winner or a world beater there either!

Vanes is solid, and even the weight ain't such an issue - most guys hitting 30 start to struggle to make the cut and it's likely he would have been moving up anyway sooner or later. Thing you just can't get around is the lay off though. 2 freakin years out of the ring is just too much.

Heard Tom from K2 say today that Vanes was actually training to fight Sulecki; that fell through so Sulecki fought Jacobs. I don't know how long ago the plug was pulled on that camp but from what Tom said, it sounds like Vanes has actually been in the gym for some time.

I always thought Vanes was a pretty solid fighter. Annoying, but a solid fighter.

Well like I said thats ALWAYS the thing. I've seen plenty of fun ass 4 round nothing fights. And thats all well & good. But I wanted to see a top 5 fight that decides something in a competitive division right now & instead I get GGG vs Vanes. Its a bs fight that maybe entertaining or not, but it doesn't matter to the division.

Give me GGG vs Derevyanchenko. GGG vs Charlo. GGG vs Jacobs. GGG vs BJS. There were some other compelling fights to make on Cinco de Mayo or in June if they needed to push the fight out a lil bit.

I'm a boxing fan. I'll watch "Superman" McGre, 18-0 (17) vs "Hobo" Jenkins, 8-17-2 (3) if its the only fight on TV so of course I'll watch GGG vs Vanes, but I no longer am looking forward to this fight nor see THAT much appeal in it even if its funner than expected. If that happens it'll more likely just be about GGG getting older as the dude looked about 42yrs old in the first couple rounds of Canelo vs GGG I.
