I agree i was confused by his reaction to not wanting the fight... but i mean when you go this long with little to no respect and get cheated by a close decison. Taylor was given a close decision over hopkins... This whole thing stinks like ****! HBO picked who they want to represent them. Taylor can afford to lose this fight so he actually LEARNS SOME ****ING DEFENCE! but when your winky your career is winding down this is just a slap in the face. EVERY one on the site would ***** the same way if you where given a bum deal EVERYONE! look at the ****ing stats Winky outlanded him by 60 that's and had a better connect percentage! i saw the fight and have read all the articles so fart and this whole thing stinks! Winky went into Taylors backyard and beat him! CAn anyone disagree with that??? watch the fight again and even look at compubox that's what is was made for so no robberies occur..........this is discusting......... on yeah everyone who said winky was going to get koed..........man be realistic, and don't belive the hype... think about it really think. but what do i know.........this is just plain sad......

Winky Wright won that fight, end of story.

I had it 117-112 or in rounds, 8-3-1; yes, one or two rounds early on could have gone either way, but not enough to make a difference. Taylor was very active in the beginning, as he was with Hopkins; but landed only about 1 in 7 punches, due to Winky's high guard and excellent defence. Boxing is supposed to be scored on "effective" aggressiveness...not just aggressiveness. If you throw a lot of punches, that's great; but if you don't land any, it's as effective as pushing agaainst a wall: you expend a lot of energy; but get no work done.

True, Jermain was strong enough that on several occasions Winky's whole body would move from the foce of the blow that landed on his glove; but, in the end, Jermain didn't do enough to win or even earn a draw, IMO.

Winky began pressureing Taylor into corners as early as round 2, where Jermain was looking to counter or time him with a right hand coming in; but while Jermain was looking for the opening, Winky was tattooing his left eye with that right jab and was landing it as evidenced by the fact that Taylor's left eye was swollen completely shut by the end of the match....and don't give me that head-butt B.S. In addition, in the 8th...I believe it was the 8th...Winky had Taylor in serious trouble and if he had applied more pressure, could have dropped and potentially stopped Taylor.

Winky completely dominated the fight with the exception of a couple of rounds here and there...particularly the first four, where it was nip and tuck. However, even in those first four, Winky was blocking most of Taylor's shots where Jermain seemed to be under the impression that if he blocked a shot, he would hurt Winky's feelings.

You can't win a fight laying in the corners and taking a beating for 2/3's of the round and rallying occassionally to the cheers of your hometown fans....that's not boxing.

Winky landed 226 punches to 163 for Taylor/ 103 jabs to Taylor's 41, dictated the pace, and showed more effective aggression and ring generalship. Taylor fought not to lose while Winky fought to win.

            Wright got screwed.....

If Wright had won the fight (officially), there was a rematch clause in the contract. In the post fight press conference (I was there) it was obvious that Jermain did not really feel he won the fight; he was very apologetic and did not have the body language of a man who had just successfully defended his belt as much as a man who received an early Christmas present and was humbled by it. Jermain's a good kid and a gutsy fighter; but the expressions of his manager and Steward of not wanting to "deal with this fellow"...aka Winky...any more, told me that they don't believe they could ever convincingly defeat Wright.

Given the controversy of the decision, Winky Wright deserves a rematch. Jermain didn't "cry" about wanting a rematch because he knows how lucky he was to get a draw.

On a side note, I don't blame Winky for leaving the ring and not going to the post fight presser. This decision was as bad as Chavez-Whitaker and Lewis-Holyfield I. If I got ****d on National television, I'd want to get the hell out of Dodge as well.

            Winky got screwed.

thank u for BOLDING out the part about EFFECTIVE AGRESSION, thats what i try to explain to people about sturm vs DLH, just cause someone is throwing a bunch of punchs it doesnt mean jack he has got to land them

Taylors team already said they wanted to fight some hometown fights for a while becuase they have been fighting the best for over a year. Taylor is only going to get better at 27 with Steward and Wright is 34 and in his prime right now. He will not be able to beat taylor in a few years from now. THERE WONT BE A REMATCH

how can you say he didn't get screwed i'm not asking alot of people, i'm asking you, seriously watch the fight no sound, look at the stats. can you say winky lost ....now i'm just being serious here. even though i am a winky fan, i am just looking strickly at the facts, and i would be the first to admit that he lost, TRUST ME! He was robbed. plain and simple just like Lewis Vs holyfield.... i ask you to seriously look and all pride aside, make up your own mind and tell me what you think. because what know and see, winky was robbed.

And i can see how this decition makes snse for HBO he's old winding down his career, HBO wants a house hold name to carry the division the need fans aboviously to watch... they are picking who they want to represent boxing for them. and that's wrong.

After every close fight there are gonna be people who though the loser was robbed. THATS why we have judges, professionals who have watched and studied boxing their entire lives. These people watch and understand boxing more then us, so there decision should be respected, if not agreed with!!

And i hope Taylors camp gives him more money, but there is absolutely no need to. i dont think there will ever be a rematch to this awsome fight!
