I don't think the tread is racist. He's just pointing out what he thinks is a valid observation. Better to say it, than to think it and smile. Now those are the racist to look out for!

How is that a valid observation? Because Jermain is black? You associate the word "sir" from a blackman to be an Unlce Tom?

Just the fact that you seriously even considered Jermain Taylor to be an uncle Tom shows you are pretty naive, at the least, and not a good judge of people.

It's pretty obvious Taylor is just a down-to-earth guy, and is respectful towards all except in the ring, where he carries a chip on his shoulder from being picked on so much in his childhood.

Taylor is very nice, and polite...I guess people are so unaccustomed to seeing that, so they wonder if Taylor is an 'Uncle Tom'.

          Now you know better.

What he observes is legit in his mind whether black or white boxer is involved. Jermain happens to be black. The Uncle Tom stereotype is used predominently to describe Black men who ass kiss white men. The Southern drawl and extra politeness makes it easy to percieve Jermaine as a Uncle tom. Is he in fact? Maybe, maybe not. But, the point can be made and that's what Anorak has done. Love or hate it.

Uncle Tom is a pejorative term for a black person who is perceived by other blacks as obsequious or servile to white authority figures, or as seeking ingratiation with them by way of unnecessary accommodation. The term Uncle Tom comes from the title character of white author Harriet Beecher Stowe's novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Sort of how I view Messsiiii.....

Jermain was kissing who's ass again? Coz he says "Yessa" to black people as well. Even an Asian journalist, probably. The ignorance in some people, jeez.

i don't know if anybody saw his olympic run for the gold medal. But even back then he used to tell the nbc interviewer "yes, sir" and the interview at the end told taylor not to call him sir, but at the end of the interview taylor called him "sir"
