Comments Thread For: Hearn: Wilder Must Provide Proof of Funds, A Proper Contract

I'm not saying its out of the question for Showtime to put up that much money for a fight but this is a business. I don't see nothing wrong with Eddie Hearn asking the questions he's asking.
If I'm Hearn I would want Wilder and Showtime to put the money in an escrow account and leave it there till after the fight. I wanna make sure my fighter gets paid the 50 million your saying you'll pay for the fight.
He's being smart asking where the money is coming from. Only a ****** motherfuccer would take someone's word for it when it comes to that much money!Comment

It's legit to ask about the funds. It's like Wilder's ******ed fans don't know how negotiation works and when you come with a huge figure that's inconsistent with previous purses and comments on the fight it's natural to want to know it's real money that actually exists.
Wilder fans just expect them to say "Yes" right away and then risk not even getting paid.
Think like adults. If the money is legit the fight will be signed within a few days if it's not and there's not a real contract it's going to take months. It's on Team Wilder to prove it's real. Hearn has said he'll take the offer no problem if it's real. Let's see if it's real. Who signs a contract without actually seeing a contract or knowing about how accurate it is?
There's still losers here who's minds are so warped they think Joshua would actually turn down a guarantee of $50m for Wilder and to me that's truly astonishing.Last edited by chrisJS; 04-26-2018, 12:16 PM.Comment

If Hearn was genuine this would be asked behind closed doors.
You don't state publicly, "He has to provide proof of funds", you get the ball rolling by talking directly, team to team, NOT ask for proof via the media.
Either Hearn is inexperienced as a promoter or is just laying the groundwork for another excuse.Comment

I'm sorry but some of the comments about this are commercially naive.
You don't make a binding agreement to a fight based on an email from the fighter and a public statement.
A deal is done when both parties have their interests fully understood and protected. That means that there is a contact to sign and funds must be seen to be in place. This is incredibly basic.
At this point Hearn has said the only thing he can. "If it really is 50m we're interested, show me the money and the contract."
Wilder's team don't have to have the cash in the bank. Theycould for example have a contact in hand with Showtime and other parties eg sponsors with huge guaranteesBut however you cut it those funds must be rock solid.
Don't blame Hearn for doing his job. Any competent promoter would do the same.Comment

Lol Eddie is shook. When I watched this interview last night all I could do was laugh. He looked humbled as hell and even went back to using Shelley instead of Shirley. Now its all about guranteeing funds and what not. Wilder would not put it out there without the blessing of the money men! The thing I love most is that Eddie is going to have to take a backseat on the promotion! Classic. And its malpractice on his part if he doesn't tell Joshua to take the offer.
And all the AJ fans parroting Eddie are a joke. Instead of looking for reasons to make the fight they are looking for reasons. Not to make it. Your boy just got one of the Sweetest offers in the history of boxing, you should be jumping up and down for him to fight. Or do you just wanted him protected? Man up so it can be Man Down!Comment

I see nothing wrong with asking for proof of funds. It's not rocket science, they can just send over a simple page showing $50 million in whatever account its being held in.
And an actual contract is needed. You can't just send over an email. If Wilder sends over a contract and Joshua signs, then both our bound to it. You can't bind each other to a deal based on an email.Comment

Wilder has thrown a figure in the air publicly with no venue or any of the other essential information required no contract attached and put a time limit on it. Business is not his strong point clearly but I'm assuming the reason he has bypassed his own management here is so as not to be accused of being milked by white men.Comment
