  • Ricky Hatton speaks!

Hatton: "I'm not making any excuses, I'm just pointing out the facts. Seven weeks before I stepped into the ring with Luis, I was preparing to fight Juan Lazcano at light-welterweight. My nutritionist and strength trainer, Kerry Kayes, had just six weeks to get enough muscle onto me to fight at welterweight. I can still make 140 easy, no problem at all. Obviously, I'm a TV product and I just do as I'm told. I'm not complaining, certain fighters want to move up through weights and sometimes you have to follow them. I actually thought the extra weight would allow me to punch even faster and more explosively, but that wasn't the case because I felt too heavy on the night and, to be honest, it was quite the opposite. I was inflated in a short space of time, basically. Look, I'm 5 foot 6 inches tall and I fought at 158 pounds. To weigh as much as a middleweight on the height of a lightweight and have the agility of a welterweight is pretty damn amazing I'd say, I just did my best. You shouldn't hold poor performances against me because I always do the best I can. I've come back from poor performances before, Vilches and that. I can only get better the more I fight up at this weight. Bare with me, I need time to grow into the division (welterweight) and then you'll start seeing some snap in my work again. If I can take on a Corrales or a Castillo back down at light-welter, I promise you'll see the Ricky Hatton who out-boxed Freddie Pendleton, Magee, Tackie and Oliveira with the speed and smarts. But's it upto TV companies and what not."

Sounds like an excuse to me.

How could he be training for Lazcano when there were about a 1000 names being thrown around before Collazo was named as the opponent?

Hatton said he'd of bit Arum's hand off if he offered him a Mayweather fight at 140.

Sounds on the money to me. This isnt Pernell Whitaker we are talking about. The guy lives off of pressure and hustle.

I've heard it all before, over and again.
