No, Stiverne was the mandatory. Wilder was so desperate to get a bigger name opponent that he offered to take a pay cut to face Ortiz so there would be money in the budget to overpay Stiverne to face Breazeale. Faced with the choice of fighting Wilder for less money or Breazeale for more money, Stiverne agreed to step aside and allow a voluntary defense against Ortiz.

WHAT garbage. He earned a lot more for facing Ortiz because nobody wanted to see stiverne fight. In he stiverne 2 fight wilder earned $1.4 million, against Ortiz he earned $2.1 million. Even step-a-side money, with intention to always fight him next anyway, he easily would have earned a lot more.

More importantly - showtime didn't really give him a choice in the matter.

It is a good matchup. I like the fight, I just don't know if after losing a fight for the WBC title, Ortiz should be getting an eliminator match for that same belt. Less than two months ago, Ortiz fought for the title. Now, he wins his next fight and he will probably be WBC mandatory again.

I guess it is good though. As long as AJ refuses to even negotiate with Wilder, Ortiz probably is the next best.

This won't happen though. Hearn wants a AJ-Whyte rematch. He isn't going to let him lose to Ortiz. I see AJ-Whyte II happening very soon. That is Whyte's excuse out. Why fight an eliminator for one belt, when I can fight for three belts right now, instead?

Would like to see Ortiz-Whyte though. I've not seen a whole bunch of either. From what I've seen, Ortiz has to be the favorite, but Whyte seems to be widely considered a top 10 heavyweight. Would be a good scrap. And if Whyte pulled off the upset, that would make a Wilder-Whyte fight a lot more exciting and a lot more money.

You think a man who has no problem getting in the ring with joshua will fear an old age cuban who had problems getting past dave allen? Dream on boy.

He'll just go with the IBF route and have him fight pulev in a final eliminator thats already been called by them...
