What ever happened to the beard rule? Up until recently a boxer couldn't have facial hair over a certain length due to it possibly helping lessen the impact of a taken punch. The last few years that has suddenly been ignored. Are they just afraid to enforce rules against certain people now?

Yeah, there was a fight recently where on the undercard it was mentioned a fighter had to trim the crap out of his beard per the Ref. It does seem very lacking in consistency. You know- like everything else in boxing rules/commissions.

Is there any real proof a beard helps? I wouldn't think a prime Tyson or Hagler would much care if you had handle-bar mustaches or a ZZ Top inspired mane on your face. I feel you would go down just the same.
