Golovkin fought 2 great opponents in Danny Jacobs and Alvarez back to back, and had a rematch with Alvarez that he loses through no action of his, so he takes this fully paid scrimmage as a last second replacement. I do not like it, but I understand. However, what happens after this will spell out what kind of champion Golovkin is. He has a mandatory due for the respected but (honestly) not overly proven Sergy Derevyanchenko, an 18 month and counting unification in the making with Saunders, another #1 contender for another one of his belts with the dangerous Jermall Charlo, and that billion dollar rematch with Alvarez all in the wings. This fight blows chunks and is simply a way for Golovkin to get a little coin and not waste the training camp. There wasn't a ton of money, so there was not going to be a great fight. Fine. I will watch it because it is Golovkin. But he has a murderers row laid out in front of him, and who he fights over the next 3-4 fights concerns me more than this event they pulled together in a few weeks.

I like this fight a lot. Of course 3G is a firm favorite but Vanes doesn't give a **** when he's fighting. I've never seen him take a backward step or even flinch. Just look at his face when he's in action, ffs - I'd say he has more ice in his veins than Golovkin. Might be an inferior fighter but my God this will be a fun war while it lasts. Definitely better than nothing.Comment

Huge crowd expected? lol ****** press release from Loeffler looks dumb now when 1/3 of the venue was empty and this is after they started taking food stamps and giving away free tickets no less. They didn't make shyt on this gate with a horrible crowd and stubhub is tiny mind you.Comment

The announced attendance for Golovkin-Martirosyan was 7,837. The announced attendance for Garcia-Velez was 6,625. In several sections, there were rows upon rows of empty seats for both cards. I think the maximum capacity for boxing at StubHub Center is roughly 9,300.
