Comments Thread For: Povetkin's Promoter Feels They Have Good Shot To Shock Joshua

Russian heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin is pushing hard to secure his mandatory shot at IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO world champion Anthony Joshua. The World Boxing Association recently ordered Joshua and Povetkin to reach an agreement in 30 days or head off to a purse bid.

I think he'd have no chance at all. 0% chance of victory.

Classic matchup. If Povetkin is allowed to fight on the inside, Joshua is in trouble. Pedvetkin has the best combinations in the division todday.

Povetkin is 38, turns 39 in September. He's still a formidable opponent, like Luis Ortiz was for Wilder, but I think Joshua will have an easier time with Povetkin than Parker. Styles make fights! Povetkin can't win a 12-round fight with Joshua! He will come forward and try to get an early stoppage, but Joshua will withstand the attack, and finish Povetkin in 9.

Agreed. If Povetkin can make it a mid/close range fight AJ will have all kinds of trouble. As would any other modern HW.

Yeah until he gets decapitated by that uppercut.

Really? I think he's very possibly the biggest threat to AJ in the division. He's a better boxer than Wilder and he can KO people with either hand.

Maybe he'll find AJ's size an issue but to say he has no chance at all seems a bit extreme?

Solid match up. Both will look to fight at pace. Both will look for an early big shot. I see Povetkin struggling to get inside to land his and AJ getting an 7th to 8th round KO.

No way he gets inside without eating a big punch on the way in. It doesn't matter if he can punch if he can't reach his opponent's chin.
