2016 was a weird year for Boxing.
And both fights went EXACTLY how we thought they would

      .
      Not true.

His own father said there was more money offered for a Brook fight.

He took a huge risk to fight one of the biggest names in boxing. Canelo was a bigger risk than Brook. If he loses to Canelo as expected his stock doesn't fall as much as if he loses to Brook. Can't fault Khan for stepping up and doing what most fighters are afraid to do.

Fair play to them for stepping up and having a go. I imagine they made good money from it, but they had little chance of coming away with wins.

Those two guys fighting eachother would of been better. A big sell out fight, good money and a competitive fight.
Yeah but there's no harm done to their credibility losing those fights and the fight with each other is still there. So they get 2 good paydays. It was really a no lose situation, in business terms anyway.

Not desperate, just thinking about a bigger payday.

Brook was a high risk/low reward fight. Canelo was a high risk/high reward fight.

The fact that Canelo and crew insisted on the catch weight all the time just shows you he had a problem with weight. The peds were obviously used to gain the weight advantage.

the floyd fight never happened because he didn't do shit in 2013, he only fought once, julio diaz and barely beat him (he got KD and hurt a few times). he thought he was gonna talk his way into a big fight while maidana beat the crap out of broner and earned his shot.

That's why I said "money AND world exposure". While the money would have been better for Amir in a Brook fight as the A side, it's not a fight that's going to capture more than domestic audiences in terms of PPV. Canelo Vs Khan was selling all over the world because both were established names. Even now Brook isn't very well known by the casual fans, but everyone knows Khan.

The fight gave Khan a chance to show his skills against arguably the best p4p fighter in the world and all being said he was in control of the fight upto the round he got demolished. The difference in speed was clear for all. If Khan had a boxing brain and w better defence he probably could have taken it to 12 rounds and maybe even gotten a draw. I won't say win because I don't think it's possible to beat Canelo on the cards unless you completely school him like Floyd Mayweather did.

Khan - Brook would have been much bigger when Brook was still undefeated.

funny how khan is a laughting stock for going up against someone twice the size of him. yet fighters who cherry pick bums and do everything to protect their 0s are the fighters that this forum loves.

I think you think too much of Canelo's fame on a world stage. He's big in Mexico and amongst some sports fans in USA, that's it.

Nobody cares anywhere else. He isn't a global star. It wasn't selling all over the world. Sky didn't even care about picking up his fight with Khan, that's how much they cared and they can outbid anyone. It was on BoxNation and did pretty low viewing figures. It wasn't PPV anywhere except USA, where it did 460,000, decent numbers for sure but it wasn't a huge fight.
