Comments Thread For: Khan Admits: I Took Canelo Fight Because I Was Desperate

British superstar Amir Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) admits that he was "desperate" for a huge fight when he accepted the opportunity to move up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge then WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez back in May of 2016. Khan used his speed and boxing ability to take an early lead, but he was knocked out cold with a huge shot in the sixth round, before a packed crowd at the first ever boxing event to be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Load of crap. The Brook fight was there which would have sold out Wembley. He ducked a massive fight.

So you're saying he ducked Brook to take on Canelo? I don't think that counts as ducking. Just like you couldn't accuse Brook of ducking Spence when he fought GGG. The amount of money and world exposure Khan got in the build up to that fight goes far beyond anything he could have gotten from fighting Brook. He would have been an idiot to turn the opportunity down.

I'm always happy for fighters to "duck" mandatories or others in their weight category if they're fighting someone who is a greater risk or bigger fight. I only get annoyed when champions avoid other champions to fight someone on a losing streak or isn't even ranked.

Khan ducked the Brook fight for years. He didn't want to risk losing to a domestic rival. He said he took the Canelo fight because he was "desperate" for a big fight. Can't have been that desperate if he ran away from one.

Brook and Khan moved up two weights in fights they had no chance of winning and not only that but it was two fights that no one really wanted to see when what everyone wanted was Khan to fight Brook and Canelo to fight GGG.

2016 was a weird year for Boxing.

Brook fan? Both Brook and Khan took bigger fights but took devastating L's. Brook was unknown for most of his career so how was Khan ducking him when he was calling Pac and Floyd out?

Canelo and Golovkin weren't bigger fights than Brook-Khan would have been. Khan was ducking for years before, Khan was choosing to fight guys like Algieri and Alexander instead of a massive fight against Brook. Just stop.

Author is being a bit loose with the "superstar" label I think.

Dude has been cherry picking for years hoping Manny and Floyd will throw him a bone.

His last big win was against Devon Alexander... DEVON ****ING ALEXANDER...
