why has PBC been unsuccessful?

seems as if ive upset a lot of people with this thread. instead of shouting, swearing and name calling, can someone just answer me, has pbc become a popular standalone product that has brought boxing back into the big time? yes or no?

it was meant to be a standalone package, a product in itself that would get viewed on mainstream channels. then many of the other broadcasters didnt renew it and it bounced to showtime and is basically just showtime boxing now. its as good as dead, the mission statement was to bring boxing back to the mainstream and its failed. its not even got close to doing so.

imo they just haven't had enough coverage and having all the different channels made it more difficult....

imo americans tend to be lazy etc for example if the pbc was on the cw channel every time they would be like oh put on the boxing on cw etc etc etc

Nobody said Davis will get smashed by Walsh. Pure fiction. Most people didn't even know who Walsh was. People think Lomachenko will lay a beating on Davis though.

They put on some good scraps, but the problem is that they promised too much money to fighters who do not bring much to the table. Due to this financial burden, they can not afford to put on many fight cards.

PBC is a flash in a pan, it sizzles for a week every half a year and that's it. They should have committed less funds to the fighters and put on twice as many cards. Let's not kid ourselves, if they paid Lara only $500k instead of $1m, Lara would still have taken it in a heartbeat.

You would think PBC wasn't ever supposed to be on Showtime, despite what they and Espinoza said at the very beginning.

Part of the issue is the boxing media itself, most of whom are beholden to networks/promoters or belong to the same circle and thus, don't have an original thought.

Whereas UFC's media highlighted every success as if they had touched the sky, PBC's were downplayed and much of the talk swirled around their supposed downfall (four years and counting).

That said, they aren't blameless. I think fighter inactivity is a huge, huge issue, albeit one everyone is having in boxing. PBC's large number of fighters makes them stick out though.

I don't know if they get a network deal. But I would assume every fan would want that? They've put on better fights than anyone since their inception and, based on their upcoming schedule, aren't slowing down. Regardless of what happens with their TV series, Haymon has done a good job positioning his fighters. It's paying off now and will look even better in the next couple years.

Not consistently enough. But boxing's viewership has risen over the past 3-4 years.

Didn't six million people watch Spence-Bundu?

Thurman drew 4 mil with Porter. 5 mil with Garcia. Garcia himself has done over 2 mil.

Deontay Wilder drew 2.5 mil viewers on a couple occasions.

Boxing is never going to be the NBA or the NFL. But it's encouraging to see viewership rising. Who knows what happens in the next few years, if PBC is able to land a deal, Arum excels with ESPN and Showtime continues to pump money into boxing. We're already doing better than UFC. Would be nice if we set our sights even higher.
