Comments Thread For: Goossen: Made Lot of Progress With Amir Khan in Past 3 Weeks

Joe Goossen is encouraged by the progress he and Amir Khan have made during their short time together. Khan hired Goossen as his trainer recently because Virgil Hunter has been dealing with an undisclosed medical issue. They've been working together for less than a month in Southern California, but Goossen has liked what he has seen from the former super lightweight champion.

Unless he replaced his glass chin with actual bone or adamantium, I don't see him changing much:/

If Khan actually thinks he can afford to fight anything like Corrales or Casimayor he’s going to get the mother of all rude awakenings

Progress?? He should beat Phil Lo Greco but we'll see the same Khan.

Khan has always put too much emphasis on his trainers. Initially he acts as if they've taught him more than he's ever learned and then he blames them when he gets knocked out or performs poorly. It'll he the same old story. He'll look brilliant and fast vs lo greco but once he faces a top fighter who isn't overmatched by his speed, he'll get clipped.

Any day now we'll hear of how khan sparred with the ghost of Diego corales and took his best shots.

No one is buying these headlines anymore. Amir Khan gets a ton of grief that he probably shouldn't get. He has been a decent fighter who has taken on most any competition in his divisions and the guy is always entertaining. But truly I say to you: We have heard this record played before. He is who we think he is. A near great offensive fighter who plays to his strengths. The ****** thing is he can be a good defensive fighter. But as the rounds move on, the guy can't help himself and will take ****** chances and get tagged hard. It is just how he is wired.

I hope he gets a couple more paydays and walks away soon. He has taken way more punishment than the human body is supposed to. He could end up paying for this abuse in the long run if he keeps fighting 3-5 more years.

It only took 3 weeks to improve 20 years of bad habits. Goossen is Trainer of the Millennium if that's true.
