Popping up on more and more sites is that they’re (Golden Boy) paying Spike not to take the fight hoping Golovkin may just have the same time off as Canelo (pending he gets 6 months. Vegas bookies are saying he gets a year suspension which—wow).

That makes no sense if golden boy wanted to do that then why officially cancel the fight at a time when they didnt have to give GGG camp more time to sign a replacement an promote a may 5 fight? They would of just waited till April 18 when NSAC releases the suspension giving GGG less time for a replacement. Plus golden boy offered spike almost immediately after the temp suspension and according to reports weeks ago and spike himself he and golden boy agreed to all terms were just waiting on GGG to sign. But that's when the fight was still in Vegas and on ppv. There was more money. Once you moved it to cheap stubhub and regular HBO the budget for the fighters shrank. At that point one of two things happen.

1. Both fighters equally agree to take a discount.
2. You give almost all the money to GGG so he doesn't have to take much or any discount and give a drastic paycut to the other fighter (spike).

My guess is number 2 happened spike offered way less then the deal on the table weeks ago. But golden boy is now offering Falcao for may 5 with spike turning this down. Falcao is a Olympian but a prospect even lower ranked at 160 then spike aka he's dirt cheap. lol
GGG doesn't even have to fight a golden boy fighter there were tons of better fighters then spike that raised their hands for the fight but are not getting consideration from loeffler. They apparently want someone not very good (low threat) and now also cheap. But good luck signing someone on 3 week notice if you can't even afford to pay for a low caliber fighter spike.

Pure speculation, but if GBP did want to make things difficult for Golovkin to fight on Cinco de Mayo one of the ways they could do it would be to dangle a potential replacement out there and then change their minds after wasting a week or so, leaving him with even less chance of a legit opponent.

Not only that but GBP have moved pretty fast to grab a weekend date of their own at the Stubhub, the day before GGG is booked to fight. Although there are legitimate financial reasons for GBP to capitalise on the Cinco de Mayo vacuum, it could be more than co-incidence that this would reduce the take of a Golovkin fight still further.

Of course, this smacks of a level of duplicity that is beyond what we'd expect from a respected boxing promotion like GBP so the offered explanation of a short purse is what we should probably accept. But if the finances are really so short that even Spike can't be convinced to fight then we can hardly expect anyone better to show up... unless we're expecting Golovkin to pay out of his own pocket.

Clearly at this stage the best thing is just to scrap the whole sorry mess and start looking for a new date.

Makes sense, but does that leave GB open to a lawsuit? Wilder won his suit vs Povetkin because their fight got cancelled over his substance abuse. I thought at least leaving ggg with the date and venue was a way of avoiding a suit, but now it just may still happen because he couldn't land a fight on such short notice

why on earth wouldn't he fight his mando Derevyanchenko, and remove that roadblock, so that he is free for either Canelo Saunders or Charlo in September?

Golovkin is well-aware that this bum-fight will prevent a MUCH better fight from happening in the near future..... so if he proceeds, then that is what he wanted

I can see that wasting fights on shht opponents, when you have 2x mandatories, a payday, and a dream, to chase..... will kill a much better fight/opportunity..... but you guys don't think that Golovkin can see whats up?
