It's one win, and I commend him for it, especially the durability and heart. But I remember the same rhetoric when Matthysse knocked out Peterson, etc etc.

I question moreso the reactions to often one legitimate win, how everyone gets carried away, and no one ever seems to learn. Not to mention that he has been outboxed for long periods in different fights. It doesnt bode well for him, Joshua is not Szpilka, Washington, or even Ortiz.

Great point regarding Matthysse's win over Peterson. I thought that win announced that Matthysse was the real deal McNeal, but he was humbled against Garcia and seemed to quit against Postol.

As I've learned more about boxing, I've come to realize there's no such thing as an untouchable fighter. Sure, there are guys who are avoided, but ultimately it seems like every fighter, even the undefeated, find themselves in fights that are extremely competitive.

Wilder didn't fight Klitchko because he was way past his prime!! Joshua's management who carefully cherry pick opponents for him, can't be too big or gotta be way past their prime as in Klitchko. I'll remind you again Klitchko was 41 years old, already beaten and hadn't fought in 18 months yet Klitchko still floored Joshua and would have won if he didn't gas out. Who's next for Joshua ? Wilder is just another Boogeyman who, more than likely will get dealt with, and after people will jump off the bus as quick as they got on, and then they will try to create the next one. The price of success.

Interesting you say that because I was considering the scenarios of both fighters and what happens. (And let’s just assume no rematch for this purpose)

If Joshua loses - I can see it making a small dent to his popularity but he probably carries on with large support from UK. His next fight probably is in O2 arena rather than a stadium against a lesser opponent but then builds back up to similar levels.

If Wilder loses - what happens to his support? The Americans are known to be much more fickle to boxers who lose their ‘0’ and suddenly Wilder will probably be seen to have protected his belt for far too long and been avoiding the big fights? I can imagine him actually struggling for fights because he will continue to be tough but won’t bring the $ to be worth the challenge.

It brings me the thought that although Wilder needs this fight far more than Joshua right now; is this a far riskier fight for him also because what happens to his career if it doesn’t go right?
