My guess is that Canelo's withdrawal from the fight and Spike being the likely replacement candidate are all elements to a negotiation between Loefler and Golden Boy. This probably also includes promotion concessions and financial considerations as well as an agreed upon rematch in September (provided that Alvarez is suspended 6 months).

GGG wants that Canelo fight as it would be a financial boon and a win would cement his resume. Canelo kind of needs the fight too, as the disputed decision and the stain of the Clen issue can be mitigated by a clear victory over Golovkin while being tested by VADA.

I would prefer a fighter more compelling than Spike but I have a feeling this all has to do more with September than May (kind of like the Canelo fight with JCC JR).
