Hopefully they are just floating this idea to make the other opponents look quality in comparison like how Pacquiao vs Alvarado did wonders for legitimizing Pacquiao vs Matthysse.Comment

Personally I would have prefered GGG postpone this date and wait on Saunders, but I only call it a duck when a fighter refuses to fight a mandatory when ordered to do so... the situation with Derevyanchenko comes pretty close however. Although both Boo-Boo and Derevyanchenko put up their hands, honestly Sergei should probably have been the priority as mando despite not being as well known as Andrade in the US.Comment

"Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, requested a permit to promote a boxing event at MGM Grand Garden on May 5 in case the rematch with Alvarez that’s scheduled on the same day at T-Mobile Arena is canceled."
I assumed GBP were out of the picture when I read about that, but obviously they are still involved.
Btw, I'm glad I'm not the only person who noticed that O'Sullivan had accepted terms from GBP, not Loeffler. I hope Loeffler and Abel veto this match up.
Well it seems like we are few people that actually bothered reading the article itself. I do think Golovkin had a situation similar to Horns where the star's promoter took fight rights on him but who knows if its for one fight or two at this point.Comment

It would not be an entertaining fight as long as it lasts, it would be a one sided beat down where Spike could get seriously hurt and may not last more than a few rounds. Watch Spike vs Eubank.Comment

I mean realistically who else can GBP bring to the table at that weight? Lemieux wants to fight in Canada and star on this own fight card and is coming off getting beaten outright so he's not really an interesting matchup for a rematch angle. Sometimes a fighter has to concede fight rights to make matchups, that way the promoter has protection on their investment, similar to what happened in negotiations with Eubanks Jr where it was a Matchroom event thus they could pick who Golovkin's opponent was because they are on the hook for his contractual guarantee.Comment

Bro while I agree that Saunders would be the better fight, I don't think you caught that O'sullivan agreed to terms with GBP to fight Golovkin so we don't even know if K2 is the one choosing the opponent right now.Comment
