Why wouldn't GGG move the date to fight a unification fight? Both fighters won't be ready for each others on May 5th since GGG has been training for an orthodox fighter the past 4-5 weeks and Saunders is still injured.
Why would anyone want to see a unification bout with neither fighter being at a 100%? I hate fighters making excuses after fights so I would be all for them fighting on a normal 8-9 weeks notice than on a 3 weeks notice, this is the best fight at the division so why not? People always talk about not liking all the business talks and aspects of boxing but when they feel like it serves their favorite fighter they all become managers all of a sudden, as a boxing fan I couldn't care less about the money both fighters would lose if they fought in June instead of May (not even sure if that would play a significant role), I just wanna see that fight and I wanna be sure that going into the fight that both guys are 100% ready for rach others.
Expecting a world class fighter like Saunders to take on the biggest challenge in his career on short notice is unrealistic. Hopefully they will get together in September.
Yes, Ingle won't have time to take him to Tenerife and get the clen cycle in and out in time for testing to begin . . . .
May 5 is the biggest day for boxing for years, point blank period. Even if its against Soda Popinski O'sullivan It makes no logistical sense to move off a historic day. They can set the BJS up later in the year, since its likely Canelo is gonna be out for the remaining of the year anyways.
Frank Warren, promoter of WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders, has revealed that his boxer is ready to fight IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC champion Gennady Golovkin in a huge unification - but not on the Cinco De Mayo date of May 5th. On Tuesday, Canelo withdrew from next month's middleweight title bout with Golovkin, two months after the Mexican star twice tested positive for banned substance clenbuterol. FACT: they could EASILY defer the fight, so that Golovkin can chase his WBO "dream"..... right?
I think Löffler still has his eyes on that Canelo fight in September and he knows GGG won't be ready by then after a tough camp/fight in June at 36 years old, so they will probably fight some scrub on May 5th to keep GGG active and to not risk the Canelo fight and then fight Canelo in September and the winner might fight Saunders or Jacobs next year, not what I would prefer to happen but it is what it is
SMH on this one. Its been what now. Two or more weeks since the Saunders/Murray fight was rescheduled because of the hand injury??? I sure would like to know the nature, details and severity of this hand injury. I realize an injury may take more than six weeks to recover from, but without clinical proof, healing time do vary. OR,...perhaps BJS is whoring out the belt and waiting to see if GGG/K2 will ante up a bigger/better deal to secure a May 5th showdown. Kind of interested to see how this plays out in the next few days.
