It's simple, really.
It's much more money for Hearn if he can lowball Wilder.
It's more attractive to Hearn financially than an AJ fight.
I'll explain.
The gate for AJ vs Takam was 75000 folks paying about 10M
The PPV gross was about 18M; Eddie sees 8M of that.
Throw in another 6M for sponsorships, foreign TV rights etc.
That's 24M.
Joshua was guaranteed 15M and Takam got about 1M.
That leaves 8M for Hearn to pay everyone else- the other fighters on the card, the promotion bills, the stadium, etc- and the remainder gets in his own pocket.
But dig what Wilder vs Whyte might look like.
Let's estimate a smaller gate, say 7M.
We will also assume that it doesn't do as well in buys, but good nonetheless, say 650,000 buys. That puts Eddie's end at about 6M.
Throw in a little less, but not too much less in sponsorship and TV money, say 5M.
That's 18M.
However, Hearn is only offering Wilder 3M. The most Whyte will get is probably around 1M. That's 4M.
Leaving Hearn with 14M to pay everyone else.
That's 6M more than what he would be dealing with after a Joshua fight.
So, in addition to stalling a Wilder vs Joshua fight, or getting an upset by Whyte of Wilder (however unlikely) there is another very real reason why Hearn wants the Whyte vs Wilder first.
It may be the biggest money fight out there for Fast Eddie.
