Finally, WBC lightweight title isn't being held hostage anymore. WBC probably the worst sanctioning body. Jose Ramirez needs to fight Prograis now but Mikey can just sit on the lightweight title for over a year.

Agree whole heartedly. Granted, Linares and Lomachenko are fighting, which only leaves Easter, but why not just fight Easter? It is a unification, and he has more name recognition than whoever this guy is he needs to make a mando against. And it brings you one step closer to a full unification at 135...

This just seems like an even more risky, yet less enticing fight. Not to mention with less on the line having only the IBF up for grabs. Why??

Mikey keeps his 140lb belt (fighting a young strong guy who just might not be ready) in a fight at home this summer, and the mandatory challenger at 135lbs is otherwise obligated (so there's no pressure from the WBC for his 135lb belt).

Mikey gets the summer fight out of the way, and then he still has options, based solely on what the WBC does; the WBC can easily strip Linares of his status as mandatory and give that to the Mendy-Campbell 2 winner, the Linares-Lomachenko winner would have to negotiate with Mikey after the fight, or Mikey can simply fight Easter Jr at 135lbs or Rellikh at 140lbs before the winter sets in.

Disappointed in Mikey. The 140 fights are going to be there for a while. These guys are young they're not going anywhere.
People can keep blaming Arum, but Arum has been making fights people said he wasn't going to make and he has been working several promoters.
