He wants Mattheyse at 147 for that secondary WBA belt. He's not going to 147 for anybody else and he's not facing Prograis-Ramirez winner or Lomachenko.

no surprise... typical mikey garcia.
i guarantee when 140 gets too tough or when fans starts pressuring mikey to move up to 147, he's gonna drop back down to 135.

I think Mikey won't be around that long. I think he'll fight Baranchyk, maybe Mattheyse or the next secondary 147-title that comes up, Relikh, Figueroa and maybe another mandatory or two and go away again in a few years.
I don't think he's interested in proving greatness. I think he wants to cherry pick his fights and sell people on his greatness because his resume is lacking and will continue to do so.

He could have stayed at 135...unify with Easter and fight The Linares-Lomachenko winner but...

Agree whole heartedly. Granted, Linares and Lomachenko are fighting, which only leaves Easter, but why not just fight Easter? It is a unification, and he has more name recognition than whoever this guy is he needs to make a mando against. And it brings you one step closer to a full unification at 135...
This just seems like an even more risky, yet less enticing fight. Not to mention with less on the line having only the IBF up for grabs. Why??
