  • Comments Thread For: Parker Had Two Elbow Surgeries Amid Negotiations for Joshua Fight

Joseph Parker's promoter has confirmed that the WBO heavyweight champion had surgeries on each elbow while he was negotiating a deal for Parker's heavyweight title unification fight against Anthony Joshua on March 31. David Higgins, director for Duco Events, told Sky Sports during an interview posted to the network's website Thursday that the procedures have made Parker healthier than he has been in a long time. The surgeries apparently enabled Parker to train better for the Joshua bout than he had prepared for his two defenses of the WBO title and his championship win against American Andy Ruiz in December 2016.

Thurman would have taken two years off if that happened to him.

I think this is a excuse for after Parker may lose. "Oh his recently healed elbow was playing up in the 3rd round onwards he couldn't get his punches off" - Wigginton after Parker retires in his corner before the 8th to save being knocked out after some initial success early on before being walked down close to being koed by aj. Not that I'm a fan of Joshua I just see the fight going this way. Parker saves face this way I believe he had a sturdy chin for a few rounds but would be susceptible late on

Or Wigginton will say the crowd singing sweet Caroline in a monotone tragic way threw off Joes equilibrium. And he got knocked out as a result of this.

Before we judge Thurman so harshly maybe we should see how Parker looks coming back from surgery and going straight into the biggest fight of his career. Could be Thurman is the smart guy here and Parker, not so much.

This is the opposite of an excuse. They just said he feels great and has been able to train fully.
