Factors contributing to weak chin or strong chin

How much control does a boxer have over their chin? It seems like doing tons of neck strengthening exercises would help a bit.

What really determines how well a boxer can take a good power shot right in the schnoz?

Whether you have a nelly neck or not i.e khan / fonfara, having no neck like gassiev or tua tends to help alot, as does face shape and mental strength, some fighters just refuse to go down. I've never been KO'd cold but i get the feeling it's like when you're so incredibly tired that you could close your eyes for half a second and be fast asleep or refuse to go down that dark tunnel and stay awake, ive lost count of the amount of times ive seen a fighter get dropped and look like they are out cold and 1 second later jump up and be conscious.

Definitely with mlac on the neck theory. A shorter, more solidly built neck (particularly surrounded by strong traps etc) is going to be able to be able to absorb more force than a longer neck, which is effectively a lever waiting to be bent. That'll scramble your noggin in a hurry.

Strong chin can also cross over into recovery abilities - a guy who gets buzzed, but has the capacity to weather the storm and regain his bearings, is going to be considered to have a "good chin", despite it not really being his chin that saw him gut it out.

The more conditioned you are the more punches you will allow or give yourself a chance to take in boxing bc its USUALLY the accumulation that causes stoppages .

Really you for the most are predispositioned to take a good punch or not . You can slightly improve your chances with jaw and neck excercises but it all comes down to ones own ability to maintain their equilibrium when hit ,some brains just rattle and they go out or easily stunned nothing they could do about it .

Most fighters known for weak chins sometimes just werent focused , to be a decent level fighter one at least has had to endure decent head shots in the first place to even make it to journeyman level .

Some fighters just luck out and dont rattle at all .

Conditioning. I mean you can have a glass jaw, a good chin, or a chin of steel.
Conditioning is the key to recovering.
Wilder vs Ortiz Round 7 & 8 are the prime example of excellent conditioning. If Wilder would have been in poor condition, he would still be asleep. Ortiz landed some nasty shots in succession

a wide face. cheekbones should be pronounced with strong width.

i don't even agree with the neck theory necessarily. GGG for example. skinny neck.

Balance is a function of the inner ear. So I am assuming it is all about genetics of that part of the head.
It will be hard to judge based solely on outside appearance.

Neck and jawline probably lol. I think alot of though is just toughness and not getting shook when you get hit with something.
