Browne vs. Kalajdzic
Browne won the via a controversial split decision at the end of 8 rounds. Two judges scored the fight 76-74 and 76-75 in favour of Browne, whilst the third judge scored it 76-74 for Kalajdzic. There was controversy from the first round when Kalajdzic fell to the canvas. Browne was credited with the knockdown, although he never threw a punch. Referee Tony Chiarantano was stood behind Browne, most likely misjudged the decision to count the knockdown. In the replay, it shows that Browne landed a punch whilst Kalajdzic slipped. Browne was also dropped in the sixth round. Both fighters claimed they had won in the post fight press conference. A rematch, according to promoter Lou DiBella, was discussed. With the win, Browne won the vacant title.[35][36][37]
The next day, Kalajdzic hit out at Browne, calling for a rematch, "I don't see how I lost. I was the aggressor. I showed my heart. If he feels like he beat me, give me the rematch."[38] Browne later stated that he would not be giving Kalajdzic a rematchComment

Nah man. Kovalev is way more vulnerable than Beterbiev. You're thinking of Kovalev from 4 years ago. Ever since the Chilemba fight, he has been a 4 round fighter. He was exhausted after 6 rounds with Igor Mikhalkin, for reference. All indications were that Browne's team was going to pick Beterbiev, but then they saw how Kovalev looked vs the southpaw Mikhalkin, and immediately changed direction. I predicted this would happen right after I saw that fight. Haymon boxers always peak the weakest link. Stevenson was already taken (with Jack), so that left Kovalev. I know it sounds weird to say but we have to stop judging him on how he was 4 years ago. Outside of the Shabbransky fight which ended too soon to tell anything, every other fight Kovalev has had the last 3 years, he has gassed badly within the first HALF of the fight. He is simply not the same P4P boxer anymore. He still has P4P skills and power, but only for a few rounds. He's not a 12 round fighter anymore. I think it would be a struggle for him to go 12 rounds on the pads at this stage, let alone in the ring vs another boxer.Comment

Kaladjdzic had a 76 inch reach, one of the few with a longer reach than Browne's 75.5 inches. Kovalev only has 72.5 inches. Kaladjdzic was also in his prime, Kovalev is not. Kaladjdzic also has pretty good hand speed, which Kovalev used to have, but it's yet to be seen if he still does after his 35th birthday. It looked pretty good the last two fights but not quite as smooth and natural as in his prime, and neither did his legs. And then obviously, his biggest issue at this point is stamina, which has absolutely fallen off a cliff and may be the worst of any titlist in the sport at this point.
Kovalev is still dangerous but he's no longer unbeatable by his contemporaries, despite still having never been legitimately beaten in his career. Even boxers with good habits decline at 33 years old, see GGG. Kovalev has had very bad training habits in the past, and he will be 35 when this fight happens, not 33. You do the math. This is a risky fight for him.Comment
