Comments Thread For: Whittom Dies After Being in 10 Month Coma Following KO Loss

Canadian boxer David Whittom, who had been in an induced coma since suffering a brain hemorrhage following a fight last spring, has died. He was 39. His partner, Jelena Zerdoner, announced his death on Facebook on Friday. "With a broken heart in a million pieces, I announce to you my friends that my David Whittom has joined the angels and my mother this afternoon," she said in French. Rest in peace my champion."

It's always tragic when this happens. I have to wonder though looking at his record, so many knockout losses it seemed bound to happen. I don't understand why he didn't retire years ago.

Rest In Peace Champ. I hate hearing stories like this. What really compounds these injuries, are PEDS taken by other boxers. That’s why we need a clean sport. Not saying that the fight he was in involved PEDs, just in general. Prayers to the family

It's so sad. It's too bad there wasn't someone looking out for his well-being.. 39 and multiple knockout losses.

From the picture looks like a blue-collar guy, who had to support family or just to survive..

RIP. I judge no one. I don't know what his life was like.

Shut up all of you. When a fighter dies you guys act like you care but in the ring when they are hurt you all say they have no heart and all they did was run. Two faced fa990ts. Off yourselves ****** ducking boys.

These tragedies always serve to remind us its for keeps out there. Bear that in mind the next time you call a fighter a coward, or complain when he didn’t fight to the death.

                  Rest In Peace, Warrior.
