The amount in his system was said to be too small to help him and he has already been retested twice and been clean. I don't think it's such a big deal. Ortiz twice tested positive and yet he was just in a major fight so why should Canelo be banned for the first failed test of his career when the amount found was small and consistent with eating bad meat and he is testing clean now?

People that say the amount is consistent with eating bad meat refuse to acknowledge that it is also consistent with taking clenbuterol without eating bad meat. Rule of thumb should always be....when in doubt sit them out.
Jeff Novitzky, who has extensive experience at handling anti-doping cases as the UFC’s vice president for athlete health and performance.
“What [the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency] did in all of [the UFC’s] cases is they went into the investigative element of anti-doping. They sent investigators to the athlete and the athlete had to prove, via records, that they had purchased meat in a store or at a restaurant. They have to prove they were present in the country. We’ve had them from both Mexico and China. So they had to show they were residing there at the time. They are subject to interviews and in all but one of our cases, everything matched out.”
Yup same situation in the NFL which has very strict drug suspension policy and because of meat contamination they did not suspend the player. Also examples of other athletes in sports such as soccer with same substance failing tests but not being punished because it was meat contamination. Actually the precedent is pretty cut and dry VADA, WADA, USADA recommend no punishment/ban for those from countries such as Mexico with meat problem and low trace amounts consistent with meat contamination.
