Comments Thread For: Gvozdyk Unsure WBC Will Make Stevenson-Jack Winner Face Him

NEW YORK Oleksandr Gvozdyk expressed skepticism about what will happen if he defeats Mehdi Amar on Saturday night. The WBC has informed the unbeaten light heavyweight contender, a heavy favorite over Amar, that if he wins Saturday night he'll earn a shot at the winner between WBC light heavyweight champ Adonis Stevenson and Badou Jack in his following fight. Quebec's Stevenson and Sweden's Jack are scheduled to meet May 19 at Bell Centre in Montreal.

Yep and by that time he will be old as hell and probably retire. I hope Jack wins. Jack is a respectable fighter who doesn't duck anybody. #1 fighter on the money team for my ahhhh.....money.

“The WBC has sanctioned that the winner of their fight is supposed to make a mandatory defense against the winner of our fight [within] 90 days [after May 19],” - from one side
"if Adonis wins he will wait for like 2 years before he fights a mamdatory or credible opponent." - from another side
And how do you think, what will happen if Stevenson refuses to fight against Gvozdyk?

champs dont chase mandatories...so if gvozdyk wins his fight i expect him and bob arum to hassle the wbc weekly about negotiations and/or a purse bid date...

You all better not fall for this "elieder alvarez the wbc is doing me wrong" crap again.

Oleksandr Gvozdyk is ok with me, but he needs to check the facts. Sergay Kovalev and Pascal both mandatories to Stevenson walked away when the WBC ordered negotiations as the #1. contenders ; Adonis never ran from them nor will he run from you!

Uh What about Eleider Alvarez? Wasn't he in "mandatory" position for 4-5 fights and 2-3 years? It's more an insult to the belt company that Adonis, I understand him trying to max reward, minimize risk (though that hurts his legacy).

i agree and i've said this long about adonis bc the facts where out there also alvarez is full of crap and his manager admits they haver turned down deals to fight adonis and i have not see any attempt from them to go to a purse bid, but if the wbc is going to pressure the winner to fight in 3 months i could see adonis having a problem with that at his age. not too many 40 year olds are fightin..and fightin in a 3 month window just dont see like something 40 year olds do...we'll see though

He was happy to be getting side money, whilst he was making great purses against local stars in Pascal and Bute risking his mandatory spot, now that Gvozdyk came into the picture hes like '**** dat'! and passed, but he should of forced the purse-bid.
