Comments Thread For: Wilder's Manager: We Don't Need 50-50 Split to Make Joshua Fight

NEW YORK Deontay Wilder's manager claims his highly anticipated heavyweight title fight against Anthony Joshua won't be as complicated to make as those that follow boxing have been led to believe. Shelly Finkel, who has worked with Wilder throughout his career, told Yahoo! Sports' Chris Mannix during a podcast made available Monday that Wilder won't demand a 50-50 purse split to get a much-discussed shot at Joshua. Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, has repeatedly stated that Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs), a superstar that fills soccer stadiums in the United Kingdom, deserves more money for their heavyweight title unification fight than Wilder (40-0, 39 KOs), the WBC champion from Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

What’s the advantage of having Shelly Finkel as your manager?
I’ve heard he manages a few big names.

This rubbed me the wrong way

“I don’t pay for rent by percentages. I pay for rent by what the fighter gets. And that’s what we’re looking for.”

I'm sure Hearn will insist on some additional roadblocks....Wilder has to go through Whyte first, right? Meanwhile Joshua has 3 or 4 fights lined up. This fight can't possibly happen until 2020.

Lmao they are all Eddie Hearn fans now. Whatever Eddie tells them or says is the greatest thing ever to them. He has convinced the ******ed boxing fans that Wilder- AJ won’t happen. Many of them hopes AJ signs with HBO

AJ has 4 years on Wilder. I doubt they're in a rush. The fight is inevitable but we're probably looking at 2020 before it happens.

Better tell Wilder that then, before accusing Hearn of making it up.

"I knock Joshua out and don't be surprised if it is in the first round. But I definitely knock Joshua out," he told ESPN when asked how he believes any fight would play out.

“It is a great fight, it is one of the biggest fights in the world and everyone wants it. It will be 50-50 or else we don't see a fight."
