Does intent matter when it comes to PED's?

Royals minor leaguer Raul Mondesi Jr. was suspended 50 games in May 2016 without pay for trace amounts of clenbuterol.

He was able to prove it was due to an over-the-counter cold medication he bought in D.R. This helped lower the suspension from the mandatory 80 to 50 games. Still harsh.

He was told he needs to consult the team before consuming anything. Even though it was unintentional he was still punished.

This is the approach to take with this Mexican beef excuse. The whole issue of meat problems in Mexico is nothing new and athletes have been warned too many times. All these guys do is play ignorant and get off easy.

Erik Morales and Franciso Vargas both got a pass after popping dirty. Now it's Canelo. All three used the same excuse.

All needed to be punished. Intent doesn't matter when the rule says zero tolerance. Otherwise the rule is a joke. If you claim to unknowingly get drunk and drive you'll still get slapped with a DUI.

Canelo is a multi millionaire who most likely has pro chefs monitoring his diet and he's eating low quality doped up meat? sounds like some nonsense. But if you're gonna cheat why not use the PED that comes with a bulletproof excuse attached.

Clen is famously used in cycling to boost endurance. If you're a gym rat it helps you shed fat while building muscle. and what was Canelo lacking last fight? stamina. He got on clen to get those iron lungs for the rematch and not gas out. He was simply popped on a cycle. His training camp was in Mexico showing he was ready to risk getting caught knowing being in Mexico would save him.

Canelo is at the highest level that means his diet is first priority this is what he said before the Chavez fight:

“Routine is everything for me because boxing is very much driven by routine. It requires a certain kind of discipline to become a great boxer,” says Alvarez, who wakes up at 6 a.m., trains for two hours, eats a lean breakfast, takes a quick power nap, and trains for another three hours. “I’m very disciplined about my diet when I train. I only eat lean proteins and veggies, like salmon and veggies.” Part of the afternoon is also spent working out strategies for the next fight." Obviously intent matters.

But negligence still carries punishment. Just like with homicide - if u intentionally murder somebody u die, or get life. u negligently kill somebody u get 3-5.

At the core of the issue nah it shouldn't matter. But in the US we as a country are strongly moral about sh^t cuz of religion so intent matters in anything with a potential punishment attached to it.

Even in the UFC if you get busted with a banned substance if you can prove it wasn't intentional usage they'll still give you a suspension, but it'll be less of a suspension then if you couldn't prove the usage was unintentional.

What? I swear you are one of the dumbest posters I've seen here - nothing you say makes any sense.

Morals have nothing to do with it? Religion?

If you intentionally put something in your body to get a competitive advantage, that should matter a hell of a lot more than if you accidentally ingested something that shows up on a test?

Well everyone has excuses these days, it's always an accident. For a fact its getting old, these guys at the highest levels have no excuses for silly mistakes. I haven't spoken to one person that buys Canelos excuse btw.

It’s a ******ed excuse cause the levels of the drug were high like he shot it up not ate it.

basically if you wanna cheat just relocate your camp to Mexico and if caught blame those doped up cows.

                thats the message this sends.

Canelo is a top tier boxer. ****** rich with carefully prepared meals yet he's eating low quality juiced up beef? nah.

for how long is this excuse gonna fly?

the rule should then be rewritten to state clenbuterol is not allowed *except if you eat Mexican beef*.

people constantly bring up the youth soccer team that popped for this. but that was fckn 2011! that story blew up and nobody in Canelos camp heard about it huh.

Canelo was trying to improve his stamina and cut weight faster. period.

this baseball player had a more solid excuse because who the fck knew cold meds in D.R. contain this PED? yet he was still smacked down.

it's time for the mexican beef excuse to die. what they should do is fine and suspend Canelo and tell him "too bad fcker next time watch what you eat" and make him send $5 mill to GGG and reschedule this sht.

Luis Nery was suspended indefinitely by WBC for missing weight. is that weak sht more serious than this?

It should, but how do you prove he didn't intentionally ingest it? Very hard thing to do when most athletes are aware of tainted beef in Mexico.

Its no more believable than Furys boar meat excuse, and I like Fury. Funny how some are displaying a double standard when it comes to Fury and Canelo. Fury was apparently a dirty cheat. Canelo apparently just likes abit of steak lol.
