i think his best display of boxign was in stiverne 1, where he had a decent opponent with an iron chin who he needed to lead around the ring and walk into stuff. he used the ring well, popped the jab, and set up stiverne to make him miss. IIRC he broke his hand in that fight and that's what forced him to get surgery. might not be a bad idea to break his right hand more often to teach him how to box

Good stuff though, he's right that Wilder get the job done regardless of the gaps in his skillset.
The Wilder that stopped Stiverne would stop the Wilder that stopped Ortiz in 5. His jab was beautiful, his spec tremendous, his athleticism through the roof and his power otherworldly. I found tell he was sick as hell in the Ortiz fight..

You do realize Ortiz would have BEEN ****ING STOPPED in the 5th round if the round didn't end right after the knockdown? He's the best finisher in the sport

Thanks for breaking that down better with his intentions cuz this thread title sounded f#cking nuts.

Yea I'd agree with what your breakdown is of ****m's stance. Guy is beating guys he shouldn't logically be beating & that says something about his natural fighting ability.

Wilder is a fighter more than a boxer & I think a lot of hardcore boxing fans got an automatic bias against guys who don't look like the way we see most top guys looking. And fair play with that stance cuz its super rare someone who fights like Wilder fights gets to the top 5 let alone the top 2 in a division.

Pretty sure this interview occurred before the Ortiz fight.

I wouldn't go that far but he is pretty quick for someone who's 6 foot 7 and has descent foot work for someone that large

i do agree with the main point in his argument, that wilder is so talented he's beating fighters he should not beat, given his limitations. he keeps surprising people, myself included, by getting so far with having developed so little. and because of that he's arguing that he's supremely talented. which he is. most guys in the olympics have been boxing for 10 years.

joshua and wilder got into the olympics with less than 50 fights each. that's absolutely freakish, particularly in this era where foreign amateurs are boxing in the olympics as grown men.
Wilder beat 40 fighters that I expected him to beat, and he would be AJ too.. nothing special in what he has done so far. Who are the fighters he wasn’t suppose to beat?

fairly certain you are missing the point. he shouldn't be expected to beat these guys who have been boxing 2x as long. wilder and joshua both got to the olympics with less than 50 fights. started the qualifying tourament with only a couple dozen fights. most amateurs have their first 50 fights outside of the open division and when they are kids.

the point is that he was the favorite, but that he should not be, given his level of experience and lack of development. and you have talent [6'7", 7' reach, hardest hitter in boxing,] to thank for that.
