Comments Thread For: Lennox Lewis: Wilder's Win Boosts Him Like AJ's KO of Klitschko

Wilder knocked down Ortiz three times in the fight, finishing off the previously unbeaten challenger with a right uppercut as the referee stopped the fight with 55 seconds left in the 10th. It's the first loss of Ortiz's career, the Cuban now 28-1.

Well, AJ and Wilder have something in common, at least they were not stopped by average boxers early in their careers.

Respect to Ortiz...a big man who can really fight.
No wonder he had been avoided like the plague.

Bigger respect to Wilder who choose to fight Ortiz who was not even a mandatory.

As i had said before if the Ortiz who beat Jennings showed up, Wilder was in for a long night. THAT Ortiz showed up and some more.

Here is hoping Ortiz gets another money fight.

Wilder passed the test with flying colors no matter what his detractors say.

40-0 with 39KOs is no accident when you have a RIGHT hand like he does.
There is POISON on that right hand.
      Keep betting against him!!

He just needs to learn how to use that left jab effectively instead of as a range finder.

All in all a good HW rumble.

      Respect to both gladiators.

I think beating Ortiz is a more complicated task than beating klitchko. While klitchko had greater power, he's basically a jab right hand fighter. Ortiz has greater skills, better movement, can counter and is stronger mentally. Hopefully aj vs Wilder can happen after aj takes care of business because the fight won't get to a better point to where its at now.

McCall was a legit contender & better than average. He was thrown to the wolves early in his career & took some early losses but he beat some pretty good HWs.

But Klitschko had far greater power, much better stamina, and showed very good movement in the AJ fight. He's wealth of pro experience is also unparalleled. Youre right about not putting it off any longer. One false move and either guy might get put on ice, and it's Bowe Lewis all over again.

To a lesser extent because of the profile of Klitschko, but this is was a really good win. Maybe more impressive. I mean, Ortiz is a monster and incredibly skilled. The fact that Deontay went through that kind of adversity to do what he did helped him prove something we didn't know about him. In a way, that was the best thing for him.
