What a damn good fight Wilder-Ortiz was

Tell that to his die hard fans. Talking about Wilder like he is the GOAT HW. Wilder himself perpetuating that nonsense. If a fighter is going to talk big, he should be more than just a one-trick pony. Wilder invites this sort of criticism by running his mouth so much. I could accept this fight for what it is, three decent rounds of sporadic action between two guys who would never have even ranked in the top ten 15 years ago.

Hater or skeptic observer? Why should I jump on the Wilder train when I see very obvious flaws in his game and while acknowledging his greatest strength is his size and power. Why wouldn't he flourish in such a weak division?

Skeptic observer? How come everyone in this division is weak? His greatest strength is not his size, maybe power. I think what separates him is his explosiveness (speed + power). He is usually undersized compared to those he fights.

No one is saying Wilder is the most technical but give him credit for some of his IQ in the ring. He avoided problems for most of the 1st 4 rounds, despite not doing as much as he typically does - thus showing respect for Ortiz. There are people as tall as Wilder who cannot do what he does, e.g. the last guy Ortiz fought. He had size, he was tall too but lacked power, speed, athleticism, chin, will, etc.

He has a lazy jab, no body attack, horrible footwork, telegraphs his punches, horrible defense. His fights look like tough man contests. But if that is your thing more power to you. I don't mind a good scrap between brawlers but let's not try to elevate their status as the second coming of Ali and Frazier.

I don't think he is Ali or Frazier; neither do I think those guys did not have a lot of weaknesses too. I don't think Wilder's footwork is as bad as you make it, but if that's what you see, I have to respect your opinion.

He does not have enough body attack - I'd give you that. I don't think he has a lazy jab - I think he gave Ortiz too much respect (rightfully so), and was trying to avoid the uppercut or being countered with a straight left.

I think Wilder is gonna grow a lot from this fight with his camp getting to watch this victory on film. Ended with a right uppercut on the inside too which was great to see.

I really want to see him start throwing out stiffer and snappier jabs because it's like his .50 caliber pistol next to his right arm bazooka.

HW's take longer to feel each other out since one punch can end the fight. I didn't' expect four rounds of it, but more than one round.

Agreed. I'd love to see him be more technically sound but his power didn't allow him to fix a lot of those things. No changing him now.
