Here comes the "FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!!" boasts
. I didn't see it in Joshua vs Wlad, which was 90% posing, and I don't see it here. Again, I see ROUND of the year, not fight.
Don't get me wrong. The last couple of rounds were very exciting. There was one point where I felt that all King Kong needed was one more big shot and Wilder was done. But the "feeling out" process lasted way too long, for this to be considered for FOTY.
There were BOOS
!! BOOS!! Im gonna say the first 5-6 rounds had almost no action.
That's the two requirements. There must be action in at least 80% of the fight, and NO BOOS.
So, the round where Wilder was almost out on his feet is a round of the year candidate, but the fight as a whole has no shot at FOTY.Comment

Agree. It was a great fight to watch by the end. But people are getting a little carried away. Here comes the "FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!!" boasts

Good point. I did noticed the change in Trout's gameplan, in fact I had the fight very close when it was nearing the later rounds, I don't remember exactly now thoughThe only real problem with open scoring, in boxing anyway, is that such a system would let inept/inexperienced/"crooked" judges actually affect the eb/flow of the fight.
There are likely other examples, but I look back to the Trout-Canelo fight; Austin Trout was basically able to box a 50/50 fight with Alvarez, the 8th round scores showed the judges having it wide, and Trout abandoned what'd been working, starting simply trying to press the fight, and Alvarez was basically able to win the last 4 rounds.
If the fight had been closed scoring, Trout would've kept to the strategy that had the fight 50/50, and Alvarez would've had to fight hard, with a live crafty guy in front him, down the stretch (it wasn't known then, but we now know that Alvarez has issues maintaining his stamina down the stretch).
Who knows how the fight turns out then.

Good fight! Ortiz had the right game plan but was gassed in the late rounds and Wilder found the equalizer. Wilder got no skills, we knew that before but he proved that he can take a punch mutch better than i thought. Wilder vs. Joshua would be brutal and now that Wilder can take a punch i think the fight is more even now. I think that would be a brutal war between these two!Comment

Reading some comments makes me think I know nothing about the sport.
I saw a sloppy , one trick pony who was losing win because his older opponent gassed.
The fact a one trick pony can get to the top is a sad indictment of today's heavyweight division.
Great fight,,nah,,entertaining yes.
A great champ,,,,not even close.
He would beat tyson,,the only tyson he would beat is today's version,,,he wouldn't have lasted three rounds with iron Mike before jail.
AJ takes him in my book.Comment

His jab was depriving Ortiz of a good line of vision, watch, along with his power, decreased Ortiz agression, thus keeping the distance. The fact that it was a counter over the jab that started that just shows why he shouldn't and didn't jab a lot. If he pulled his arm back he would give Ortiz a better vision and the space he needed to strike. And don't forget that Ortiz actually had the reach advantage, that's why he could fight from the distanceHe wasn't even able to keep Ortiz at bay with his jab either, as a matter of fact the first punch that hurt Wilder in the 7th was a right hook over that pawing jab, Ortiz was even throwing his jab over Wilder's and catching him with it. He should of snapped the jab but for some odd reason chose to arm punch and paw with it even though it wasn't effective. Heck he doesn't even know how to keep distance with it, it's sad. I really wish he'd work on these things but like the majority of power punchers he's fallen in love with his power and although it's bailed him out thus far it's not going to always work out for him that way. I wish Emmanuel Steward was alive to teach this dude how to fightComment

About the same here, still wanting to know why so many people had Ortiz so far ahead. Must be some kind of bias of the type "you can't outbox the boxer", so the puncher is always downComment

Definitely not FOTY material. Gassiev vs Dorticos was better and still leading. Great fight anywayHere comes the "FIGHT OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!!" boasts

Wilder should have been stopped in the 7th. Ortiz was comfortably winning the fight until he gassedComment
