Comments Thread For: Warren: Statistically Boxing is Safer Than Many Other Sports

IT is a very difficult time to defend the sport when tragedies like Scott Westgarth's death happen. All of boxing is thinking of his family this week and pass on our condolences to them at this terrible time. But banning boxing would only send it underground. Fighters would be at even more risk with no regulations.

Is the Westgarth death going to make UK Stoppages even worse?

I won't be watching AJ vs Parker if the Ref's are going to wave it off after AJ lands his first punch.

as for the article, he isn't wrong. Look at boxing when it was illegal.

Im being serious... U.K. ppl seem to be very sissy. Not the regular folks maybe, but the ppl who are in charge of information and turning the public into pansies. They ban boxers for using unpopular language or points of view. Now this.. Im sure it will mean stoppages will be even earlier than ever now. So i have changed my mind, wilder vs AJ should just happen in vegas. I always took the stand that the atmosphere in UK trumps anything U.S. could offer in a big fight like that. But i would rather watch a crowd sleeping during the fight than have one of them sissys stop it on some bs early stoppage. Ppl say they want boxing mainstream... Better think about these kind of repercussions. We already have the Gabe Montoya sissys entering boxing world. Imagine if boxing was truly mainstream. It would probably be slap fights with sensors on the palms to make, sure nobody got stung to hard ha

"Some people are born to box and they will do it whatever it takes...."- that is pure BS. Like saying "some women are born to be **********s".

An honest man will simply say: "Boxing is a cruel sport. It is my guilty pleasure. I wish I could stop watching it but I can't. It is an entertainment of the highest order but I feel guilty every time tragedies happen. As if I am cooperating with a cruel industry..."

I'm neither American nor British, so I get my news from German news outlets and mostly reddit, but what I gather from media is that the usa is much more concerned about political correctness, weird social justice movements and not hurting anyone's feeling than the UK.

but concerning boxing, it's true that the UK ist taking a much safer approach and stop fights prematurely more often than not.

Yeah the american cultures being stripped and making sissys outta ppl. Especially ppl under 40 i think. But my point was boxing isnt mainstream here like it is in U.K. and if these kinda problems happen when boxing is mainstream then i would rather it stay under the radar here in U.S.

It's statistically one of the most dangerous sports, up there with horse racing and football. Unless he's including mountain climbing or something. I don't think this kind of pr is needed after a tragedy like this.

Boxing is boxing, American football is American. When you take the violence out you will lose the fans. This is basically pr to help soccer and basketball lol. Soccer is now tied for baseball in America with popular. NBA is closing the gap for number one over NFL. I like boxing for what it is, but if they start changing the rules it would be ******. Think of that g men vs Nigel Benn fight. He got knocked out of the ring and came back to put the guy in a coma. You never know. Don't stop fights early.
