If I was within a few hours Id be there, unfortunately Texas doesnt have a lot of fights like these. I did go to the Canelo/Smith fight at Cowboy stadium a few years ago and I paid $178 a ticket for pretty bleh seats. I bet that would buy pretty decent seats at either of these fights.

Where did I say anything negative about Wilder or blame him for anything in my post?

If I misinterpreted your previous post and it was a criticism of American boxing and not of Wilder, I apologize. Wilder is the most popular American heavyweight in decades, so you can understand my confusion when so many on this site try to claim that he isn't popular.

But if you want to compare him to a US based Eastern European champion ... it's a shame Deontay can't draw fans in NY the way GGG can.

Again, just because Deontay isn't one of the two most popular boxers in the US doesn't mean he isn't popular.

Now that Floyd is retired, the biggest draw in US boxing is Canelo. GGG is likely #2. Wilder is likely in the top 5. So when posters from other countries act like Wilder is some sort of failure, I think they have a very skewed perspective of what boxing is like in America. In terms of US born fighters, Wilder is, by far, one of the most popular we have. His popularity just doesn't compare to a guy like AJ because boxing isn't a popular sport in the US and AJ is a huge megastar in his country.

Look up the attendance numbers for some of those Byrd title defenses, or Ruiz title defense, or Brewster, or Briggs, etc.

Wilder inherited scorched earth. He may never make the huge huge money, but the next guy who does will owe a lot to him for repairing so much of the damage that had been done.

Remains to be seen how much it hurts Showtime viewership, but in terms of ticket sales, it seems New York clearly chose the PBC fight. The competition from Kovalev might have resulted in the loss of a few hundred ticket sales, but can't be much more than that.

As for counter programming hurting the sport, an argument could be made that it could actually help the sport in the long run. If PBC (and/or ESPN) can bully HBO out of the business, the sport would benefit. Two universes was already bad enough. Three is awful.
