The reason Canelo is disliked by Mexicans

Don't think saying black fighters sell less is racist, it's the ****** argument he used. He, like many, seem to believe Mexicans have the monopoly on move forward attack first fighters. Black fighters use every style in the book. Nothing boring about a Spence, Charlo or Shawn Porter.

He's always got a little too petty like that and is very arrogant about "my era" and is a little too flash for many folks. He's become an excellent fighter after people thought he was a tv creation in Mexico. A lot of the public didn't really like him out there. Most of my friends are Mexican and the ones I watch all the fights with only really 1 or 2 are Canelo fans and I'd say 1 or 2 hate him the others are indifferent on him.
Actually what happened was he imposed a catchweight on Hatton an then cheated his own catchweight....

i think casual mexican fans are going to dislike him for whatever reason, and i don't really care about that. how he looks, the money he makes, etc. who gives a ****, the guy boxes for a living and he's very dedicated to what he does. he's not coddled or living an easy life. i don't care if he's rich. what he does for a living is tougher than whatever you are doing. just trust me if you don't understand that.
there are some legitmate beefs with canelo alvarez, and here are some of them:
1. matchmaking.
canelo has fought a lot of tough guys along the way, and has a very good resume for a fighter in his mid 20's. that said, he was kept away from golovkin like the plague until he slowed down. he also fought totally overmatched james kirkland, alfredo angulo, amir freaking khan, created the 155 lb division, etc. there's some material there if you're looking for stuff to hate about canelo.
2. judging.
yeah, he doesn't judge his own fights. but surely you understand the resentment of a guy who consistently has judges turn in cards that ahve nothing to do with the boxing match they just watched. i'm talking about 8 points in the golovkin fight. six points in the lara fight. a draw in the mayweather fight.
a draw against floyd mayweather?!?!?! hello!!!?!?!?!? that was the definition of a schooling. i was there. 8 and 6 points against golovkin and lara respectively? lots of people thought those guys won the fights! and you have judges turning in 118-110 and 117-111 scoring? FFS that is fishy and i'm not goign to have beef with sombody who is turned off by it.

Originally posted by New England View Postearly in his career marquez didn't get the shine of barrera and morales because he used his legs after he landed his counters or his combinations. he didn't start to develop a reputation as a blood and guts guy really unitl he fought diaz and katsidis and went life and death, and that was after he'd slowed down. believe me, prime marquez doesn't do that on purpose.
yes, he went to war with pacquiao in 1 and 2, but those were actaully fought at a much more deliberate pace than the diaz and katsidis fights. both marquez and pacquiao were content in those first two fights particularly to take breaks and box. they were wars and classics because of how good they both were, the stakes, and because their styles meshed so well for them to trade leather and for them to both be effective offensively. neither pacquiao nor marquez came forward exclusively looking to slug.
so was marquez not a mexican fighter in his prime because he was so good that he didnt' need to take one to land one? this "not a true mexican" fighter stuff is usually coming from guys who aren't really in a position to talk about how the mexican greats actually fought.
golovkin didn't have the speed and wasn't young enough to really test alvarez. yeah, he ahd the power, a great jab, but he didn't have enough to put the former on canelo after the latter landed. in time he will fight somebody who can! give him a chance to, you know, actually fight out a career, before you indict the guy for not being mexican enough for you.
