jones fought calzaghe, hopkins, trinidad on ppv when he was a completely spent force. i really don't think you watched boxing when jones was in his prime. it was literally 15 years ago. pacquiao has been on the slide as well, but when jones was shot pacquiao was the best fighter in the world for several years. you're talking about a difference of 10 years likeit means nothing, again leading me to believe that you're just not that familiar with roy jones. who was never a draw on the level of pacquiao to begin with, BTW.
fair enough, maybe jones was an extreme example but think reality has got to hit pacquiao that hes not some must see attraction now. If he thinks him v alvarado was worthy of its own PPV event then hes deluded.
SALUTE to Manny Pacquiao! Now go tell Bob to get you Lucas Matthysse ASAP!
Respect to Pacquiao. Seriously. He is a legend and should be treated as such, but....
He could have just fought Crawford if he wanted to headline so badly...
You felt you won the fight vs Horn. So move on from the “robbery” and fight top guys if you want to headline PPV.
But if he ends up fighting Matthysse instead, great. I believe that’s still a PPV worthy fight IMO. Clearly not as big, or significant as a bout v TC, but w Pacquio being the legend he is he can carry that card if promoted properly and expectations are realistic.
Oh my goodness! It's now official. All the rumors and innuendos have now been confirmed. Now if he would only just leave Top Rank and sign with the PBC because they hold all the cards at Welterweight, then he can fight all the kind of fights and opponents he wants like Porter, Garcia, Thurman, Spence, Broner and Peterson.
I tip my hat to Manny Pacquiao. He's a man of great valor and courage. He wants to challenge the best opponents out there available. He's a proven warrior and gladiator. I wish him much success in all his endeavors.
Look through is record and see how many fighter he cherry picked coming off of recent losses.
I think it depends on how you choose to be critical. I am not talking about trying to judge a fighter on whether he fought Mayweather, Cotto, Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Margarito, Hatton, Bradley, etc. in a row. Every great in history had their "comeback fights". Their "keep busy" fights. Fights vs lesser opposition in between big fights.
I don't dispute Horn being a carefully selected opponent. A marketing job crafted around fighting the young, likable , underdog, white Australian in his home country in front of a passionate crowd. That means a loud arena, international flare, good numbers and atmosphere. It also represented a fighter they thought they'd score an impressive knockout.
My thing is that I fully expected Pacman to have fought Crawford had he beaten Horn. I feel that is the fight that was really being setup, After the Bradley I fiasco and Marquez KO, Pacman fought 3 winnable fights (Rios, Bradley and Algeri) to get his market backup to eventually get that elusive Mayweather fight. Then after Mayweather, it seemed he was primed to do that again be beating Bradley, Vargas and Horn before another big fight.
After losing to Morales, he fought Velasquez. A tune up while a rematch was to build. Guess what? Morales fought Raheem as a keep busy fight too keep a rematch hot and he lost.
and he wanted a rematch but didnt get it and now hes gonna be regulated to undercard of a guy that he beat and wanted a rematch with?
its not horn fighting some alvarado type opponent though, its him v crawford. Theres way more interest in that than pacquiao fighting mike alvarado, and thats a washed up alvarado too.
