For someone supposedly sooo technical, that's a sloppy overhand bar room brawler punch to the back/side of the head and neck. Illegal per rules but sadly it's up to the referee and commission over the black and white rules.

Similar punch. I could look through 36 minutes and find a punch, that did land behind the ear, as it clearly does.
With your keen eyes in spotting the ref, you should see that.

Canelo actually landed a left hook as Golovkin ducked in and threw the right. I doubt he intentionally landed on the neck/ear area. Had he landed on Canelo's chin, it would have done more damage.

16. Intentionally spitting out the mouthpiece;
