He got to #3 via attrition. Which is why the IBF doesn't rank #1 or #2 without an eliminator, to prevent title shots being earned via attrition. Unfortunately, nobody was willing to fight an eliminator to earn this shot, so it goes to #3.
Shouldn't there be a rule for as long as no one steps up for an eliminator, there shouldn't be a mandatory enforced and the champion has free choice from the top 5/10?

Mandatory by default is ****** and makes ibf's mandatory defenses even weaker than they already are.

Feel bad for Spence. Has no high quality fighters willing to get in tge ring with him at the moment.
To think the IBF will sacrifice this Ocampu just to mandate their mandatory is border line criminal.
I give it to this young mexican atleast he has the balls to step in the ring i just hope it doesnt set him back too far.

the IBF may have some leeway here to prevent someone from being mandatory without agreeing to an eliminator. i'd have to re-read the IBF rules (which are obviously long and tedious).

but in this instance, #3 ocampo did agree to fight #4 in an eliminator, but #4 pulled out. a lot of times when an eliminator is canceled because someone refused to fight, the willing party is given the benefit of the doubt as if the eliminator took place, because it's not fair to delay their career.

It’s amazing how many grown azz men will make a bed of future embarrassment to try to look cute in the moment. These clowns are why the best fights don’t happen because they constantly protect fighters who look like them. Let me clarify for the slow in thought, choosing Ocampo had to happen because the real mandatory vacated avoiding Spence, at least for now Ocampo has enough pride to meet his new mandatory ranking. Too bad there is not enough pride in the cowardly fans to see him go out on his warrior shield, fighting a guy everyone else is clearly scared to fight. Cherry pic my arse, we all see what is happening... everyone of the boxers Spense supposedly missed on this board won’t even whisper Spence’s name in private as they scream 6 other fighters names to the media. Media drops the name Spence and interviews end. If you guys were real fight fans, you would put pressure on those dodging fighters. But I guess watching those losses can be too painful to want the fights too happen? Must be tough being you.

Bro don’t feel bad for Spence this young lion in Ocampos is dangerous because he is willing to fight. The kid clearly thinks he can win. Feel bad for the pretender bum fighters who all ducked Spence to set a too green Ocampos up with a date he is probably not prepared for. Clearly this is not the sport it used to be. Too many fighters who don’t believe in themselves and hang around trying to catch extended checks.
