Did Errol Spence really make 3.5 million vs Lamont Peterson?

Is it true or just a rumor?

Because if it is true then Al Haymon is really overpaying these guys.

If true, no wonder they fight once a year and wouldn't want to fight each other. When they can make a easy 1 million fighting a journeyman/bum.

NO such thing as overpaying guys who are risking their lives in a ring to entertain us.

Whatever these guys get paid, it aint enough.

It's a bribe from Haymon to keep him from signing with GBP. It's similar to Mikey Garcia getting the same amount. Nothing to do with their respective fights, Peterson and Lippnets.

if its behind the scenes money mikey is full of sh-it about "taking the better deal" cause haymon was going to give him all that money anyway no matter who he fought since it wasnt part of the official purse and yet he picked lipinets.... you have to wonder why pbc went from having shows every week to basically nothing. maybe haymon is using that money to overpay his star guys so they stay with him. as long as the money continues ok but at some point dont you have to make a profit or it runs out? just thinking logically here unlike haymon the worst businessman on earth(cept trump)

It was Errol Spence Jr's show.

He didn't front the money to put on the event like Floyd, but he did sell something like 15k tickets in Barclays Center and Showtime likely put up a pretty penny for the US rights on the fight.

I doubt his take ended up getting to $3.5m, but it wouldn't shock me if he ended up with 60%-75% of the total take after covering the cost of the event and paying everyone (Lou DiBella ends up with a good piece after doing the work for the show, with Haymon getting his fee from Spence's take)

Yup. Oscar had been trying to lure both to join GBP.

Spence was overpaid purely for the sole reason of turning down the Cotto fight and subsequent promotional rights he would have given up to GB.

The Cotto fight would have made him a lot of money. Payday against Peterson was a cushion for that blow.
