I voted yes, because Ward was on the verge of breaking his hands from all the sissy looking punches he was landing on Kovalev's body to no avail. And the referee protected Ward from suffering permanent hand injury.

No - definitely was not. Weeks should have given Kovalev a count as the ropes were keeping him up. He then should have Warned Ward because the last shot in particular was low. After that fight continues...

Kovalev was in big trouble though. He had been hurt body and head and there were a lot of rounds left, plus his tank was approaching 0.

            Yes it was fair.

Ward had that dude bent over and begging to stop, wheeling around the ring unable to stand up. Kovolev was beaten up.

he was getting beaten up, but the fight was stopped on low blows.

Was ward on his way to winning? almost certainly. Was it a bad stoppage and were there clear fouls? Yes. Not the worst stoppage I've seen, but a tainted victory nonetheless. It's a case of losing something in victory...it offered kovalev a convenient way out of the fight and a built in excuse. Kovalev knew he was finished and to leave a question like that is better than being broken down and stopped in decisive fashion, which was probably imminent. It's typical of ward as a fighter tho, even his greatest accomplishments are less than spectacular and in some way not fan friendly.

Weeks blew it. He should have told both guys before the fight, "look, just so you know, I'm not calling any fouls".

Exactly. Kovalev wanted out, the stoppage only stole a truly career defining highlight KO from Ward
