It's funny how Kovalev's fans will blame his undisciplined preparation for the two fights as the only reason he lost. While at the same time blaming low blows. While at the same jumping up and down that Kovalev really won the first fight. It's one thing to be a fan of a boxer. It's a whole other thing to suspend reality and all critical thinking to blindly support that fighter.
Kovalev lost a close fight the first time. He lost because he couldn't capitalize on the early KD. He lost it because he couldn't handle the body attack from Ward. He also lost because Ward is a tougher fighter mentally than he is.
He simply lost the second fight. Ward adjusted and threw lead rights because Kovalev was lazy in keeping up his defense. He was close to getting stopped when he slumped on the ropes after a sustained body attack. Even if they were low blows (which there was) it was Kovalev's responsibility to protect himself and ensure he could continue fighting.Comment

Ward is approaching his mid 30s. He fought and beat pretty much all the toughest fighters out there. I think now is the time for him to start fighting more so for $$$ than accolades.Look at all these crybabies! lmao
Ward took the heart and soul of Kov. There is no doubt about it. His own manager admitted it. Kov quit. Things got tough and he quit. In both fights.
The thing is, Stevenson has held the WBC belt and the lineal title. He is the "boogeyman." He is the man Ward "retired" instead of facing. Ward has been talking about one of Stevenson's leftover cherries, for a fight. Kov most certainly did quit, anyone who fails to accept that should watch both fights again. And Ward most certainly has/is ducking Stevenson.
Ward says the lhw division is full of good fighters. And then he talks about wanting to fight some bum at cruiserweight. While Superman has been lineal champ at 175 for over five years and a tournament is about over to crown the undisputed cruiserweight champ, Ward is talking about some bum Superman is still criticized for even fighting.
As for Kov, he is done. He is now relegated to fighting other Russians no one has ever heard of in bouts with no ped testing. Kov is still 0-2 in bouts with ped testing. He pulled out of a purse bid to fight Superman for the WBC belt, since the WBC has year round drug testing. He is a cheat and a quitter. And Ward retired to duck all challenges. That's just the truth.
If Tony Bellew equates to more pay, then Tony Bellew is the fight he needs to take. True, Adonis Stevenson may be the lineal champ, but Kovalev had more hardware and and more exposure. I was actually about to say Kov had the better resume but i had to look it up. LOL
All he had was Cleverly, Pascal, and 50yr old Hopkins. Plus Campillo if you wanna count him...
Stevenson had Dawson, Cloud, Bellew, Fonfara.. Plus Bika and Williams, if you want to count them.
I'd say these resumes are pretty damn even... None of their opponents were prime killers. Maybe Clev was closest to his prime w Kov, but he didnt end up being an elite fighter at all...Comment
