I read in a Mike Tyson biography that Cus D'Amato wanted to make Tyson into a perfect machine and no one would know about so he never entered him into the Golden Gloves or any other big tournament.

The DUKE won the Kansas city Golden Gloves in 88 by a knockout and advanced through more and got up to concord to face Ray Mercer and lost a close decision

I think it was the Junior Golden Gloves that Ishe Smith won.

I just spoke with her about it and she did not know about James and the Golden Gloves.

One question though, James was fighting out of Detroit so what would he be doing fighting in the Manchester Golden Gloves?

"Marciano had a 12-fight amateur career during which he won the New England Golden Gloves title before losing to Coley Wallace in the Eastern Championships. It would be his last defeat inside a boxing ring." - Direct Quote for a source...

****, just type in 'Rock Marciano - Golden Gloves' at google.com..
