Lets just say that you and the other person are somewhat equally matched in skill and level.

I'm kinda of starting out and started sparring recently... I'm 118 pounds.

    Thoughts and comments appreciated!
Hells yea it matters. Just be careful and you'll be ok. It's a learning experience.

You often got that guy in the gym that nobody wants to sparr with, and EVEN if you are ready for war and start to beat him, he would go dirty and elbow you; rabbit punch and clinch like a ******.

Yeah you got some mean guys like that in boxing gyms, but most of the fighters are usually chill and just try to work on some technical.
Yes, I'm a girl by the way, and the girl i'm sparring with treats it like a fight. She goes 100% power and literally TRIES to knock me out... which I honestly think is counter productive and uncool. Since she is a "teammate". Plus, she has 2 years more experience than I have... AND almost 10 pounds heavier than me. But girls will be girls and be freaking AGGRESSIVE no matter what. Anyways, thanks for the response!

For sure, I just need to work on my movement and defense... work behind a strong jab. She's a bit shorter than I am but heavier. Thanks!

If you put 10 lbs in a book bag while you dance, run, skip rope...then hit heavy bag... I think it might make a difference!

De****able, have you tried reaching out and talking to her, or the coach? I’ve sparred my fair share and we try not to accrue injuries. Sound like you need to talk or start countering! Good luck

Very true... I've mentioned it to my sparring partner. I basically told her "hey, we are teammates and we should learn to work with one another...".

She still goes 100% full force... lol. There is an "old school" mentality instilled in the people's minds of my gym. The sink or swim mentality... how we are not "friends" in the ring.

Idk... honestly, I feel like my coach will think I'm "weak minded" if I speak up to him in regards to sparring. I know that sounds ******... but honestly that's how things are treated around here.

I feel ya. If your Trainer doesn’t listen and intervene, he doesn’t have your best health in his mind. Find another gym. Sparring is sharpen and polish your craft, not to straight fight it out wide open. Every once in a while it does get competitive, ever thought maybe you have hurt or stunned her in the past. Part of being a good ring technician is keeping a poker face, as hard as it may seem sometimes
