IDK man, after Dirrell's last performance?? I don't think many people hold him in high esteem anymore. I'm not saying Groves is a beast, he has his flaws but he's riding much higher than Andre.

Plus Groves was involved in the more recent mega fights with Froch, so he brings a bit more value with his name.

... They will have to come up with a solid solution to this situation: because the winner of the tournament will be entitled to get something like £8m...

... and what if even the other semifinalist winner suffers from an injury???... they can't simply replace them with the losers or bring fighters from outside the tournament to take the prize money... such "solutions" would kill the very idea of any future tournaments of such sort... right?

Who was that fighter some years back who trained himself and the same thing happened? Basically didn't know how to keep the fighter in front of him and got clipped?

If he pulls out, part of me says Eubank deserves the slot more than someone who hasn’t fought in the tourney but a beltholder would make it more interesting.

Does Groves vacate anything by missing the final?
He wouldn't lose his WBA world title, or the IBO belt he won from Eubank, if that's what you mean.

Groves is hoping he will be ok to fight on the projected date, and that if he isn't fit, the final will be postponed.

But Kallie Sauerland seems to be aiming to stage the final on June 2nd, with or without Groves, and says it's possible Eubank Jr could step in and get another chance if George isn't ready on time:

            http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/431

George Groves says he is "confident" he will fight in the World Boxing Super Series final on 2 June after suffering a shoulder injury in beating Chris Eubank Jr on Saturday.

Groves retained his WBA super-middleweight title with a unanimous points win, but was taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

"If the date needs to be changed I'm sure the tournament would decide it is better to delay it to get me into the final because it wouldn't be the same," Groves told BBC Radio 5 live.

"It is vitally important to me in my boxing career to go on and achieve what is now the dream of winning the World Boxing Super Series" said Groves.

"I've worked so hard. I've had two big fights to get into the final. I need to go and see the specialist to find out what the recovery time is."

He added: "That said, 2 June might still work. We haven't had that information yet.

"The shoulder feels great after being put back in place. I'm confident that I will be challenging for the Muhammad Ali trophy. This is going to be my trophy - I want it."

Groves' trainer, Shane McGuigan described his fighter's injury as "a massive concern for the tournament" and that the 29-year-old's "health is paramount".

On Sunday, 29-year-old Groves posted on social media that there would be a "medical update on the shoulder coming soon".

After Saturday's bout at Manchester Arena, tournament promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed British fighter Eubank Jr would be "on the list" to take Groves' place in the final.

"We have a scope for when the tournament has to be completed," Sauerland added.

"We are hopeful. With those type of injuries he could train quickly again, but no-one knows until it's been diagnosed by an expert."

They should just postpone the final bloody hell what's the point otherwise? Groves and Smith is a hell of a fight, assuming Smith wins.

DeGale Vs Truax rematch and winner of that can fight Groves when he is back from the injury, makes more sense and maybe Eubank Jr can try the last saloon chance at Zurdo.

Come on how can you give the spot to someone else who has not participated in the tournament that's absolutely pathetic. Once Groves gets an update on the seriousness of the injury they will know more. If he will be fit to fight within 6 months then postpone until then if it will take longer then you have to award the tournament to the winner of Smith v Braehmer.
