How good is Floyd Snr as a trainer?

Obviously he trained his son up to his first world title and trained ODH later in his career but did a terrible job with Hatton when he fought against Pacquiao.

Do you rate FM Snr as a trainer and if you dont, why?

I don’t think he’s that good it’s Floyds talent that carries him . He has not trained other fighters from scratch to win world titles. I think he made De Latoya worse after he went to Sr De la Hoya was not as aggressive he didn’t use his deadly hooks anymore

He is great with certain fighters but he requires total discipline almost like a military style. Few fighters can handle it.

But considering how he raised TBE, his expectations must be pretty high and he have no patience for average ass fighters.

Floyd Sr is a very good trainer.

          Damn!

I think one could do worse but I think the best person Floyd has was Roger. Roger had some unique abilities that were underrated. For one thing Roger inspired confidance. If Floyd got shook now and then Roger knew how to talk him through it. Roger just had a way of understanding Floyd's emotional affect.

Roger also gave good advice, like the best trainer do, instead of the ra ra bullspit. I think Floyd senior was flashy but not really that good as a trainer.

He is very good only if you can understand what he is saying, which is a challenge in itself..

He's the best trainer that's left.

Hatton was too in his own ways for Sr. For some guys, it's better that they just stay with their flawed trainers and do the good things that they do well better, than switch.

Oscar has said that Floyd Sr is the best trainer he ever had (along with the Professor Jesus Rivero who he credits with developing him as a whole person not just as a boxer.)

That is a huge compliment given all the greats he got to work with such as Emmanuel Steward, Gil Clancy, and Freddie Roach.

Chad Dawson was at his absolute best when he was with Sr in my opinion.

Everytime I see a clip of Floyd Snr training, I see him trying to change guys style and force them to learn the shoulder roll. That should tell you all you need to know.
