Close fight, no problem with the decision. ESPN and Arum basically hand wrapped a belt and gave it to Beltran because it’s a cool story. So from a boxing fan’s prospective, he’s a paper trinket. But as a human being, I’m happy for him because his story is amazing.
That said, we know how Part II to this story goes. Beltran is keeping that belt warm for Lomachencko. It’ll make for a cool storyline. The tough, gritty, former sparring partner turned champion tries his luck against maybe the most virtuoso performer in the game. Maybe I’m off base here. But I have no desire to watch Lomachencko box circles around Beltran. And that’s not a knock on Beltran and a compliment to Lomachencko. Only thing that immediately comes to mind as a comparison is when Floyd fought Gatti. Any real boxing fan knew the result to that before it happened. Lomachencko-Beltran will be no different. I like Beltran. And have no desire to see him embarrassed and exposed.
