Comments Thread For: Carl Froch: Eubank Will Win, But Groves Could Prove Me Wrong

Retired super middleweight champion Carl Froch is fully backing Chris Eubank Jr. to defeat George Groves on Saturday night in their WBA, IBO unification showdown. The two boxers will meet in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series tournament, which takes place at the Manchester Arena. In the past, Froch has sparred with Eubank Jr. and he stopped Groves, twice, in tough competitive contests.

Man I'm surprised Froc didn't mention the 80,000 at Wembley.

"I mean I think Eubank defeats Groves, the man I KO'ed in Wembley infront of 80,000 British fans."

      Froch loves trolling Groves....

I heard him say in another interview that he favored Groves to win!

You can't just walk forward against a power puncher with your chin in the air. You just don't see that style do well at world level, look at margarito v mosley. These chin first fighters get found out. Even froch v groves 1 is a good example where he went into that fight not respecting groves power.

He planted his feet, threw the right hand and knocked him out in front of 80000 at Wembley, after chopping down trees in the build up.

Face first granite fighters are effective against movers (Cotto-Margo) but had so much trouble against fighters that plant their feet and stand their ground.

Grove not saying much of note here.

                I can't pick a winner at all.

My gut is favouring Eubank Jr but I can't really justify why. Maybe due to Groves's propensity to tire and that has been hurt multiple times in his career, and he trades up when hurt and when that happen Eubank Jr will get there first.

But common sense also tells you Groves is bigger, has a much, much, much, better jab, and a lot of dangerous punches he throws such as that left hook to the body, and he has an uncanny ability to sneak that right hand around the guard and deliver it with power. In fact most everything George throws has intent on it.

Eubank in the main seems to have got success from swarming. And we assume he has an iron chin like his old man.

I just think it turns into a fight and Eubank takes it. But I can't see Eubank's uppercut really doing anything to a well prepared veteran like Groves. And the size difference looked remarkable in their open workouts.

                Actually, I don't have a clue.

Probably the best fight made for ages tbh.

Eubank looks great throwing those no power combos in against poor opponents who don't have the defense, ring generalship or experience to fire back when under pressure. Anyone can and will look good against an opponent scared to fire back (I know from personal experience, I came up against a lad from a 'rival' gym who stayed relaxed and admittedly ended up outgunning me and got the decision in the end)

Groves can and will trade with the best of them but I think he needs to make this a very boring fight to win this convincingly, otherwise he could be in for a hard night.

Heart says Groves, head says Eubank.
